Last update crashed Googleearth (PCLOS 32 bit).Rollback?
« on: November 11, 2012, 05:08:25 AM »
2 days ago I did the latest upgrade (PCLOS 32 bit,  Asus p78-M, Graphics Intel onboard) - and since then google-earth crashes with signal 6. Can I rollback these unfortunate upgrades? How?

Greetings from lake Constance in heavy rain

What happens if you run google-earth from a konsole (use google-earth as the command) Does it bring any error messages.

When did you last update?

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

its me - again. I updated 3 days ago (today: your system is up to date - nothing to do) and Google-Earth ist still crashing. The Crashlog:
Major Version 7
Minor Version 0
Build Number 0001
Build Date Oct 29 2012
Build Time 19:13:39
OS Type 3
OS Major Version 2
OS Minor Version 6
OS Build Version 38
OS Patch Version 8
Crash Signal 11
Crash Time 1352738109
Up Time 2,68379

Stacktrace from glibc:
./libgoogleearth_free.so(+0x1e9cfb)[0xb7706cfb]
./libgoogleearth_free.so(+0x1e9f43)[0xb7706f43]
[0xffffe400]

So, it should be the graphics driver, I think. I am experimenting!

Update:
I am using onboard-graphics Intel 810. It says (also since the last update): no 3D-acceleration possible, because missing XComposite and XDamage-plugins. But the libraries are both installed (libxcomposite und libxdamage: libraries and devel-packs). I can't activate 3D-acceleration. That should be the problem. Kernel is 2.6.38.8.
What can I do?

what is your exact chipset?
Can you post the output from
Code: [Select]
lspci

Also, have you considered updated to the 3.2.18 kernel?

This does not look like you want to use the i810 driver...is this an i5 or i7 processor with dual-graphics?

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal

Re: Last update crashed GE - PARTIAL SUCCESS!
« Reply #11 on: November 13, 2012, 11:59:18 AM »
followed this tip (from ubuntu):
signal 11 means a missing module libGL.so.1. Do:
wget http://librarian.launchpad.net/7037027/libGL.so.1 -O libGL.so.1
sudo cp libGL.so.1 /opt/google/earth/free

now GE is starting and is stable. BUT: no landscape is visible - just stars and a uniform grey color. (GE 7.01 beta) View is set to earth (sky is unmarked). How can I get the landscape back?

btw: can somebody tell a new user how to insert an image here? Didn't succeed! But it would be helpful...
