Hi daniel

I booted in failsafe. Ran pcc and found a menu point "autoinstall" and then I was back again with everything running inclusive update notifier  :D

Thank You for helping me with this issue. And thank You for the link which is new to me  :)

OleWilly,
could you possibly give a more detailed explanation of what you did, for those of us following along?

Thank you.

I installed the newest PCLinuxOS on an old weak Dell Optiplex GX60 box. All went well but every time I booted the analog clock widget was heavily distorted and misplaced. Also when notifications was popping up the first fraction of a second the pop up area looked like a TV set which was not in horizontal sync. In the attempt to solve that problem I changed the video driver from i810 to Xorg driver intel.

That's where the trouble started  ;)

Hi Just17

Maybe that is not much of an explanation. By weak I meant low edge machinery. I have only installed 512 Mb ram. - Cool  -  the system running, but of course fairly slow but obeying my commands if they are ok. All caused by lack of understanding of fundamental linux which I try to enhance. - I am a rather elderly guy 65 yrs old  ;D and I cannot improve my own memory as in computers  :D

It was this that I asked about.

You found a menu ......  which one, where?

"autoinstall" of what?

Those are the questions I am left with trying to figure out what you did to correct the problem  ;)

If you cannot be sure we can leave it as a mystery  ;)

Hi

As earlier stated i ran pcc as su in failsafe mode.
Then I went into that rudimentary menu and there was a point under the monitor section. And I chose autoinstall.
- And here I had my OS back.  :o :D :D ;)

OW

I used the linux live cd only to get a screen as my experiments with the driver caused the system not to boot
fully with a visible screen. My monitor came with this message half through the process : No input signal
