Here's hoping he's fine. And as many have said, 'He'll be back.'  :)

On the topic of an 'O-P library', maybe the PCLinuxOS Wiki would be a good place for all of his advice if someone has the time and inclination to start moving his posts over there?

Moving posts out of the forum is a very bad idea.

Sure. Please do not move any posts. The best option would be to archive all the posts in a text file (better still html because his posts almost always use color and highlights to improve readability) and provide it for anyone willing to do the grunt work.
I had asked him way back about copyrights for his posts w.r.t. the wiki and he told me it was ok to post the information to wiki. (Not very sure if we could copy verbatim)

Never would move any post from o-p...

But some of his post (some ??? ) are to useful to search every day for it, and so should store his posts on a place.

May 2 cents

just17, can you not access archive?  it's there to house what was saved of the previous forum that nearly got lost in a move from one server supplier to another.  there will be no move out of the forum.

If O-P's absence is temporary, why archive his posts as opposed to any others? This whole project seems to assume he's gone and needs a monument to celebrate the value of his contribution.

I just hope his Internet being on but unattended doesn't mean he's ill with no one to look after him.

How quickly would he be missed by offline acquaintances if he needed help?

Does anyone know?

Maybe pclos should send a Press Release to the Rockford Register and Star about him being missed here and members being concerned for his well-being.

But that's definitely a decision for Neal.

I seem to be a lone voice here but I have to say it .......

IMO, singling out one poster for such special treatment is wrong.

By all means build a database which uses such posts .......  from ALL contributors to the forum and NOT from ONE poster (which is what is being proposed) ......  under headings that can be searched for solutions to problems.

The main problem IMO for someone searching the forum for answers to questions is the terminology used differs per poster.
To have (even) links to such posts/threads in a central location which provide answers to specific problems is probably warranted (WIKI?) but I say again to single out one poster for such treatment is not, IMO.

Doing as proposed automatically excludes other posters' contributions ......  which could be taken as a deliberate slight to those who have given their time and expertise to answer questions on this forum.

In case you misunderstand ......  no, I do not like the idea at all. (in fact I suggest that O-P would not like it either)

OP would not like it.
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

That should not be the goal. But extracting the core knowledge from it should be. That is why I suggest creating a file of exported posts and then extract useful things to the wiki.

Why is Old-Polack so much sought after? Because of his knowledge and more so because of his style of posting. Clearly highlighted using bold, italics, colours so that important points could easily be picked out even by an untrained eye. Also his patience and willingness to help. (The last item is shown by many others here too)

I really hope he starts posting again soonest :)

I agree, not only O-P posts.

The idea is still good, we could begin with those and move to others as that task is accomplished.

What we need now is to agree in a format that we all can use and avoid future problems when/if we reach the need to organize the info

Great!!

As my mother said to me the first time I went home 3:00 o'clock in the morning and found her awake, coffee in hand in the living room: "I'm glad you are OK but now we have to talk young man"  ;D
