Here Google-Earth 7 works perfectly in my 32 bit installs. The only problem is that I have to start it from the CLI as it has disappeared from the K-menu. (In 64 bit I've never got it to work. Perhaps I should start a new thread about that....)

"The only problem is that I have to start it from the CLI as it has disappeared from the K-menu"

when the update request was accepted, it was mentioned that you have to reinstall it to recover the menu entry

i did that and it worked

it also rules out a possible bad install of ge7

Thanks! I reinstalled it here too, and I got the menu entry back. But isn't it a bit strange that you have to install a program twice before everything works?

I am having trouble with google earth 7 here too. It will not get past the initializing message when started from the menu.

If I go to a root terminal and type in google-earth, it attempts to start and then crashes.

Here is the crash message:

Each time I try to open Google Earth, it generates a crash report containing among other information, the line
Crash Signal 11

My last post details the whole crash report

I also had the problem with the disappearing KMenu entry and was solved by a reinstall.
The other problem I have is that I get the same picture on my netbook (Intel GMA 3150) as in the first post while it's ok on my regular (Radeon HD 5450) PC.
And with this version GE has problem finding the places.
For instance:
Boston (and other US city's) are in the middle of the Atlantic ocean (between Haiti and West-Sahara)
Amsterdam is in the middle of Algeria (Africa).
I guess I have to go back to school ;D

there is something missing here
and
..... I get the same picture on my netbook (Intel GMA 3150)......

I was able to repair this by installing another (6.0.3.2197) version of GE with (in konsole):
Code: [Select]
wget http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Code: [Select]
chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Code: [Select]
su
Code: [Select]
./GoogleEarthLinux.binAnd manually adding a KMenu entry with
Quote
Name: Google Earth
Command: googleearth %f
Icon: /opt/google-earth/product_logo_256.png

Info is from here.
Maybe this an idea/solution for an additional package for PCLOS ???
That's it ;)

I have the same problem as described by jimwilk. Crush a original package from Google and a package, installed from repo.
Now I temporarily returned to the previous version of Google Earth (6.2.2.6613).

PCLOS 2012.08, KDE 4.9.2, the system is fully updated using Synaptic.

How did you do that?
I could'nt find the previous version anymore,
neither in synaptic nor on the Google-earth download site;
there it gives the option to download the previous version
but the actual binary still is GE7.  :-[
