Ugly desktop! Obsolete. Closed.
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:52:48 AM »
I just reloaded PCLOS from the 2012.08 release. I kept /home from the last time.  I use a relatively dark-colored image for my "wallpaper."  All the titles of the icons or widgets on the desktop
are in black, surrounded by a white cloud.  I must have white letters with no cloud or anything else.  How do I do that?  Also, the panel is a very light gray, and the widgets on it are very hard
to see. How can I make the panel a dark blue or black?
And while I'm at it, how do I make the size of the fonts on this forum bigger? At 75, I'm really struggling to read this.

Please help, urgent
!

Configure Your Desktop, is the only thing I can think of.  And there is enough places to tweak....

Configure Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance > Desktop Theme.

Probably you are looking for Oxygen. Give a try of others too and decide.

as for the forum font size, try Ctrl+'+' which usually increases the font size in any browser.

All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Configure Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance > Desktop Theme.

And to get rid of the white cloud you don't have to change the whole theme, just the colour scheme (Configure Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance > Desktop Theme > Details > Colour Scheme).

Thank you for the reply.  As it happens, I screwed up even further: I tried to install the nvidia driver, and apparently picked the wrong
answer.  On reboot, the screen came up with everything about 10 times normal size--iow, totally unusable.  I did not know how
to getback to a usable screen.  I am in the process of completely re-partitioning the disk and will install the complete system from scratch. (I did save what I hope are the important files to another drive before I started all this.)

The install just finished, and my complaints about the desktop are moot--it looks OK now.

Now a question: In another thread, I had a problem with KSnapshot on an upgraded system. With this fresh install, before upgrading,
I found that KSnapshot works. If I wish to do the upgrade on the install that Ive 'just finished, can I mark the three files
for not upgrading? (kipi-plugins, libkdraw and libkexiv2.) How would I do that, exactly?

It was probably time to start anew anyway, altho I wish it could have been with a 64-bit system.  Now I can spend the rest of the day
trying to get back my various programs that don't come in the repos!

Thanx again for the inputs.  --doug

I personally like Plastik, for windows decorations... Neon Glow by FRUiT, for the theme.
