I would unplug the cables for sr0 and boot with only sr1 connected ......  then see if it works as expected or not.

If not, then I would change the data cable to the one that sr0 was using, so sr1 is now using the sr0 cable and the socket sr0 was using ......  reboot and try again.

It is a long time since I saw reports of some optical devices throwing problems and not being fully compatible with Linux/PCLinux.

There is a problem with a settings conflict some where and I have no idea where. I tried one DVD drive with the other completely disconnected and each one worked properly but with both connected the one that is in sr0 works but the other does not. So I know there is nothing wrong with either drive. If I could resolve the conflict that would be great.

I had a brief scare while doing the trouble shooting on the DVD issue and my hard drive with /home came unplugged. I thought I had killed the drive. But its okay and I am making a fresh back right now. Nothing like possible lost data to remind you to back up.

All help figuring out what is causing the conflict between the two DVD drives will be much appreciated.

The drive order is now reversed. This is the new order it was the other way around. Optiarc use to be at 1 and did not work now it works and ATAPI used to be at 0 and now it doesn't work.

$ wodim --devices
wodim: Overview of accessible drives (2 found) :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
 0  dev='/dev/sg1'      rwrw-- : 'Optiarc' 'DVD RW AD-7280S'
 1  dev='/dev/sg3'      rwrw-- : 'ATAPI' 'iHAS224   B'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The physical data cables for the two DVD drives are plugged into SATA slots 2 and 3 my two hard drives are plugged into SATA slots 0 and 1. /home is the only partition on the HD 1TB at slot 1. The rest of the install is on the HD 250GB at slot 0.

If you disconnect the Optiarc will the other work?

Is it a problem with the SATA connection it is connected to?

How many SATA connectors are on the motherboard?

Is RAID turned off in the BIOS .....  it might be expecting a RAID compatible device on SATA 3

Yes each drive works as expected as long as the other one is not connected. It doesn't matter what SATA connection it is in either. There are 6 connections on the board and I have tried them all. I will check the bios for raid after my back up is finished.

I guess that eliminates that idea.  :D

BTW ......  do they both work in a liveUSB/LiveHDD (poorman's) boot? .....  if you can test it.

I don't know. I have never set up a LiveUSB/LiveHDD. I don't know how to set them up because I haven't seen any reason too.

If you boot from a LiveCD/DVD does the other work? ......  two boots to check booting from each ....

Booting the LiveDVD in either DVD drive works but playing audio or video discs does not work in other drive. KsCD doesn't work at all on the HDD install or the LiveDVD.

On my HDD install Exaile plays the audio CDs but not KsCD won't. Dragon Player crashes on video discs but smplayer works.

On the LiveDVD clementine and vlc won't work either. I didn't install anything while running to the LiveDVD to do more tests. I don't have clementine or vlc installed on my HDD install. I won't use proprietary apps with restrictive licenses.

Data access works on both drives in all situations. I can see and copy the the data from the disc but I just can't get it to play.

All are installed.

PCLOS is current I don't know the cli command to give you the exact version for PCLOS. KDE is 4.9.2

uname -r

shows the info about the kernel.

I didn't realize that is what you wanted to know.

3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs

I was thinking of the PCLOS release file I have seen get updated at times.
