Thanks everybody.  I don't think I learned anything I didn't already know.  :(

That is the very sad part of this all. Good Luck.

I joke with him all the time about how scared he is by my dogs.

Friendships just work better when the street goes both ways. I understand his fears, I just get tired of always being the one that has to travel for a visit.

Don't travel anymore and see what happens.
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

OK, here is another 'take' on it.

You are not much of a friend to him if you cannot accommodate his fears when he wishes to visit you.

If he had a per pet lion/tiger/whatever in his home, and you said you feared it, would you expect him to accommodate you to allow you to visit him?

.......  just another way of looking at it ......  ;)

I had a friend that owned and ran a garage (repair for vehicles).

But from the time his mouth opened, you could never really believe what came out of his mouth.

I believe in cutting things short that are no good for me.

We haven't spoken for over a year.  I intend to keep it that way.

If I had a friend that owned a Tiger. And I trusted that friend. And he assured me that the tiger was tame and safe. And he could illustrate it to be so by playing safely with kids and himself and other strangers on the property, all of which I can do with my dogs,, I would trust him.

In fact, I would jump at the chance to play with a tame tiger.

Your point however is well taken.

If someone claimed to have a tame crocodile that I could pet and play with, I might have second thoughts.   ;D

Some people are sensitive in ways that might shock you.

For example, if it comes to his attention that you are 'tired', the problem will be solved and you will not have to visit anymore, ever.

Of tame animals, now no one has ever tamed a hippo, no?

I am not going to end a friendship over such a simple thing. My relationship with him is not at ransom.

It's just such a shame that our interaction must revolve around his "unreasonable" fear of the most friendly and tamed two animals anyone is ever likely to come into contact with.

Sure,, they are both large and sure, they could both rip your throat out if they wanted to but your biggest threat is a "dog kiss" on the face.

Even then, a quick "Stop!" will result in a belly up submission on the floor.

I can understand his fear. I have to treat it like anyone that claims they are "allergic".

You are right Rudge.

Being in your friends shoes, you are his friend despite the fact that you have probably the most terrifying creatures to him. He is brave. So are you for seeking to make it work.

I doubt if I would befriend anyone who has, for instance, those huge hairy spiders Shiver and he lets them walk freely in his house triple shiver....

No sir, not in a hundred thousand years.

Ok,, you made your point. "Touche" my friend.  ;D

That's what I get for letting my fears of harmless creatures be known..   ::) ::) ::)

It was a friendship of convenience.  He got carpentry work from me at a discount... I got my vehicles worked on at a discount.
