[SOLVED] Dragon Player crashing on every DVD
« on: November 08, 2012, 09:53:33 PM »
I have had minor trouble with Dragon Player on some DVDs but now I have two new Sata DVD drives. One won't play anything from any app and the other won't play anything from Dragon Player. Dragon player crashes with every DVD I attempt to run on either drive. It appears that I might have software and hardware issues. I am not sure where to start first. Should I post a separate post in hardware about my drives or should I try to find the problem with Dragon Player first? I don't know what steps to take to check Dragon Player.

Will someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks.

First, you can let us know if you are using 4.8.3 or 4.9.2. Then you can copy and paste to pastebin and link here the output of launching the app from the konsole.

Does it also crash on playing files - avi, mp4, mkv?

4.9.2

I simply clicked on one of the menu items from the DVD for the movie and it dumps back to the desktop. I posted the output as it was recorded in the terminal where I started dragon player. I was using the lightscribe drive.

The drive works with smplayer with no crashes.

I don't have any of the files you asked about will check.

Tried several different video files formats on the hard drive no crash but no play either it just does nothing.

Another output paste from a crash from a video file on the hard drive.

Hi. Is that playing the same Bourne Identity video on SMPlayer? From Google results, it seemed to me that the DVD Bourne Identity you played on Dragon is encoded (restricted). I've read from other posts in the forum that you can actually get it to work with libdvdcss. I'm sure someone with better knowledge on DRM-enabled media can give you better suggestions.

Yes it played on smplayer. The the first pastbin link is for dragon player crashing on a DVD in the drive and the second link is dragon player crashing on a vob file already on my hard drive and nothing in the drive. I have libdvdcss2 installed.

If you didn't see a problem with dragon player then the problem must be the drive.

KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit

That appears to be the cause of DragonPlayer crashing.

Maybe temporarily rename this file to drkonqi.bak and then launch Dragon again

letting that file be replaced seems to have fixed the problem with dragon player.
