Microsoft Office Coming to iOS and Android
« on: November 08, 2012, 04:00:27 PM »
"Between Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, the Surface, the new Xbox Dashboard, and SmartGlass, Microsoft has had a pretty big month. Still, just because the company is celebrating launches across many different divisions, that doesn't mean it's willing to talk about just anything. One thing Redmond has kept pretty quiet about is Office for iOS and Android.

However, it seems someone is willing to talk. The Verge cites several sources close to Microsoft's plans that say the company will release Office for Android and iOS in early 2013. This matches up nicely with reports we heard in early October that said native Microsoft Office apps will launch on both iOS and Android next March."

their strategy is know that their windows platform is sinking and mobile is doing very well, a natural step i think

now, there is so many free options on android market, on ios i think that there is many too, not their best idea, slow reaction i think

I agree with you guys.

BUT the business world still heavily uses MS-office.  My Blackberry devices have had Documents-To-Go (ms-friendly) since day one.  Why do you think this is one of the reasons the business world doesn't want Blackberry to die.

I save my stuff on my computers with LibreOffice in MS format, then copy it to my Torch 9810, or my 64-gig Playbook.

So the MS format is the standard... who cares.  Adapt and move on.

it does care because it will not be free, you use one that is free because it comes with the device

it is standard up to a certain point but not really standard

Its more then that .... If use Microsoft Office, why not use Windows8?  THAT is what the trick really is, is my guess. And it will likely work with all these Windows fan's out there.  The beast lives on .....

yes, that is the logic applied by them

they also want to create a new tablet platform, what they are doing with windows rt but the market points to the most mobile device and tablet are still big and heavy when compared to a smartphone

technology market is evolving in weird ways

So the MS format is the standard... who cares.  Adapt and move on.

A standard isn't decided by the biggest bully on the corner, forcing everyone to do it "their way," with "their tools." Nor is a standard set by those users who succumb to that bully, and who know of nothing else.

Standards are set by international bodies. In this case, the OpenDocument formats are considered the standard by that international standards committee. Even after being told to do so, Microsoft hasn't fully complied with making their Office suite "standards compliant." Rather, they introduced a bastardized form of the standard and then proceeded to call it a name that is very similar to the format that IS the official standard.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not endorsing Microsoft and there ways.

I'm saying that if something is beyond one's control... adapt and make the best of it.

There will always be the "microsoft, intel..." of the world, who will do things that we don't care for.
