Wireless connections not listed on Network Center
« on: November 07, 2012, 05:06:31 PM »
My wireless connection is working fine, and listed, as well as all of them in the area, on WIFIradar, however not on Network Center where the list is empty. It works fine with the live DVD, however after installation and upgrade to KDE 4.9.2 the above issue starts. I would appreciate if any one could give me a hint how to sort out this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

yes, this is a recent situation, a very popular

it was caused by a update to wpa_suplicant

some users have fixed the problem with just deleting the connection and recreating it

others are experiencing a different condition that is not being solved that way

Thanks a lot, I am ware of the updated wpa_suplicant created the problem, however all connections are listed on wifi radar, but still not on Network Center, and despite deleing the connection the issue still remains.

I have the problem (no networks listed), but my default connection works fine so I haven't bothered to investigate.  Don't know when it showed up, as I had no reason to go looking (the thing is never out of the house), and didn't, until I read this thread.

it happened when the wpa_supplicant update came last week

it could delete and recreate again the connection and everything was back to normal but is not happening to everyone, i was thinking that could be related to ndiswrapper, do you use windows driver?

I may have to do that at some point, or the next time I'm bored.

Nope, no windows driver here...

Yeah, I guess I'm number 3 then... but I'm not using KDE (I'm using XFCE) and not using ndiswrapper (I'm using the native driver for my card)...  and I updated about a week ago. Booting my laptop last night resulted in no wireless connection. I had to go in and delete & recreate it, and now it works fine. However, it still doesn't show up in Network Monitor.

Hope it gets solved quickly... it's kind of frustrating.....

Same story as Meemaw only that I'm using XLDE, found that when I needed to connect in another location.

I hope this is fixed soon.

I packaged the update, but I didn't change anything the in build spec to cause this. At least not that I am aware of.  :-[ I'm not a wireless expert, so I am hoping someone solves this so that I can package a fix. Otherwise, it might be better to remove the newer package if it only causes regressions.

Galen

[Edit] I did the first update to 1.0. Someone else, may have already packaged a minor rebuild in an effort to solve this. I seem to remember a second update. Regardless, the problem began with 1.0.

I reverted to 0.7.3 to see if the problem is only wpa_supplicant .....  but the wireless detection was messed up with that too.

So IMO it appears to be a combination of things causing the problem.

You can add me into that list of people who can't get a list of available wifi networks. This happen on LXDE, KDE and Xfce. So, it's not related to any specific DE.
