This is the only patch available that someone (racuna) found that it works  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1097676#p1097676  but Galen says it didn't work

Unless racuna is talking about this post  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1097389#p1097389

racuna, could you explain exactly what you did?
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

The patch is just the two changes mentioned by racuna here on page 1 of this thread. Following Crow's link, it looks like there is an experimental branch that has several bugfixes, including this one. I'll build that and see what happens. We don't usually package experimental software, but as wicd has never really been extremely stable, it is likely an improvement to the existing version.

I've ready the package, and wireless-tools, too.
See DB ;)

I think it works. But, I need to test it in more locations than just at home. It seems to remember previous settings, which was the previous problem. But I don't get any type of monitor in the system tray. Is this normal? Do I need to change some configuration to get a net_applet type of monitor?

Sure enough I met the same thing today on a new installed laptop. Thought it was something on this machine as it also has sound problems. Right now I am connected, what was a no go in the morning here, but Network Center sees nothing....
I wonder, if no patch, why not go back to the old one that worked for now?

With daniel's updated wicd and wireless-tools, my 32-bit install connects and stays connected. On my 64-bit kde wicd shows a connection strength of 35% and drops the connection almost immediately. Network center shows 47% and stays connected. I know others have had the opposite results with wicd, but for me they keep missing the mark.

Just to throw in my two cents' worth - I'm running a HP Pavilion dv6-3120us laptop, fully updated PCLOS wicd NOT installed.

I have no trouble connecting to my wireless network using netapplet, and it also shows both mine and my neighbours' networks when I right-click it.

However, if I then click on "Manage wireless networks" it takes me to the PCC wireless connection screen, showing no wireless connections whatever.

The same result if I access the PCC wireless connection screen via PCC.

The only way to edit a connection is to right-click the netapplet, then select the individual connection at that point.

Beats me!  Just pleased that I have no connection problems ;D

Good point. It might be a temporary solution if the patch doesn't work... or it isn't because of dependencies?

Same situation here. I have no trouble connecting at home, it does remember the active connection, but I can't get it to connect to any other wi-fi network (and modifying the individual connection doesn't seem to work as well).

Update: wicd has started working without errors on my 64-bit kde with daniel's test rpm and wireless-tools. I wish I understood why wireless works sometimes and not others. For the record, I am using a Toshiba A205 laptop with Atheros wireless and wpa-psk.
