It would help us to know a bit more - what spin of PCLinuxOS (KDE4, LXDE, XFCE, Full Monty, what?) and what release (2012.0-what?)

We need to know more about your specific laptop's hardware, too.

The specifications page for this laptop:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-64199

Please note the video hardware section lists the following:

Quote
Video
Display

14.1-inch XGA (1024 x 768 resolution) TFT display
14.1-inch SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution) TFT display
15 inch XGA (1024 x 768 resolution) TFT display
15 inch SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution) TFT display

Notes:

    All displays are measured diagonally.

Graphic Controller

Video chipsets:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (Intel 940GML / 945GM)- integrated graphics chipset
64MB ATI Mobility RADEON X1300 - discrete graphics chipset
128MB ATI Mobility RADEON X1400 - discrete graphics chipset

For models without a separate video card, memory supports both system and video. System memory used by video may be up to 32MB if the system has 128MB installed, up to 160MB if the system has 256MB installed, and up to 192MB if the system has 512MB or more system memory installed, depending on video mode.

2048x1536   60, 66, 70, 75 Hz

So the crucial question is this:  which video setup do you have?  (Which display and video chipset?)  You really need to know that before you proceed.

I would think the best way to raise your resolution would be via PCLinuxOS Control Center ==> Hardware ==> Configure Video Card, but that would not be persistent until after an install from the CD/DVD.  Running live would default to something "sane" to ensure functionality during test/installation.

It is, perhaps, that daniel is asking for the same information in a more direct way?  Please do as he suggests.  It will prove instructive, and very well could lead to a solution for you.

Hmm... not familiar with the X1400, so:

(Reference Page for Radeon Mobility X1400 from AMD's website)
http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/ati-mobility-hd-x1000/x1400/Pages/x1400.aspx

AMD's suggested driver for Linux:
http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.9&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=Linux+x86&keywords=&items=20

Yeah, it's looking as though the Live CD does detect the hardware, and I believe that is the proper driver it's using, so that leaves configuring the X Window server to use the proper resolution.  Have you tried setting up your video resolution in PCLinuxOS Control Center as I described previously?  Try stepping up to 1024 X 768 first, then go in steps until you hit the limit of your display screen's resolution.

Gotta head to work just now, so I'll check back later.  If all else fails, download and install the manufacturer's suggested Legacy driver (link above).  (That could be a non-trivial process, though.)

I'm not sure what to make of the xrandr output - it's almost as though it can't figure out how to make your screen resolution any larger because it can't communicate with your hardware well enough?  Hopefully Daniel will know more than I do (it's a good bet - he's a really knowledgeable guy...)

Huh.  You might look in your computer's hardware setup and see where the value of the video aperture is set.  Set this to a higher value if possible and see what results you have.  (This may affect your total available RAM, though... shouldn't matter if the system has 1 GB RAM or more total...)  {This could be way off-base.  If your system worked well enough in that other M$ operating system, this is probably not an issue...}

I gotta run for now.  Catch you...

I installed pclinuxos-KDE-2012.08.iso the option mode FBDEV. Can I change the screen resolution to the command in terminal?

Install lxrandr, and make some tests...

With is the only what i can say yet.

Edit:

forget it, xrandr isn't find anything, and so will lxrandr not working, too.

Is PCC > Hardware > Configure Video Card > Screen Resolution not working for you?

An another idea is, to open a terminal, and type
Code: [Select]
su <enter>
ROOT-Password <enter>
Code: [Select]
init 3 <enter>
You will port to terminal without any x-server.
Type
Code: [Select]
root <enter>
ROOT-Password <enter>
and type now
Code: [Select]
Xorg -configureThis will generate a new Xorg.conf in /root directory.
Reboot, and post your new xorg.conf file here...
Maybe will this a solution for you

This is strange of course  ::) , may a curse  ???

Try this as root,

Code: [Select]
sed -i "22i\    Option \"PreferredMode\" \"1024x768\"" /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and reboot.

Will this change anything?
