at least in beta form

"Valve Software announced on Tuesday the launch of a limited access beta for its new Steam for Linux Beta client. This new Linux beta currently supports the free-to-play game Team Fortress 2, and approximately two dozen additional Steam titles that are playable on Linux-based systems including Trine 2, World of Goo, Serious Sam 3: BFE and more."

for those with hardware that can play good games on linux, with a good video card with good drivers, team fortress 2 is really fun to play

This clearly shifts one of the primary footholds that winders had over LINUX.

I suspect that the "Office" environment will follow.

My suspicion is that MS assumes, smart phones and tablets are the way of the future and that full blown PCs will die.

May be it's a hoax.

Here's what's been said at the Another Distro Developer Summit:

In a presentation at another distro Developer Summit currently going on in Denmark, Drew Bliss from Valve said that Linux is becoming more viable platform as an alternative to Windows 8. Windows 8 ships with its own app store and it is moving away from an open platform model.

I've applied for a spot on the Beta Test Team at my daughter's request.  (Haven't heard back from them yet - she had to explain to me what "Valve Time" means... :D)

There are only 1,000 slots open.  Folks on the dev crew need to apply if they are so inclined - PCLinuxOS needs to represent here, folks!

http://www.valvesoftware.com/linuxsurvey.php  (You will need a Steam account to apply - it's not too hard to create one.)

I see a lot of traffic indicating that the initial beta is for Ub__u only - Geez, what's up with that?  >:(

Dell Latitude D620, PCLinuxOS 2012.08 KDE4/LXDE, 3.2.18.pclos.bfs, specs here.
