[solved] DVDStyler generates a non-functional DVD.
« on: November 06, 2012, 02:55:53 PM »
The last time I made a dvd with DVDStyler on 07-10-2012 everything was going OK.
Doing the same today (after ?? updates) generating a .iso is again no problem.
Opening the .iso in VLC or (after burning a DVD) using a real DVD-player given the following result:
The menu with the items is shown.
However it is not possible to select and thus starting one of the movies on the DVD.
In short: It is a useless DVD.

I also have a Clonezilla-PCLOS-12-10-2012 image.
Putting this image back on the appropriate partition and installing dvdstyler-2.3-1pclos2012
+ dependencies
  • libav-0.8.2-3pclos2012
  • libnvtvsimple0-0.4.7-2.20040408.12pclos2007
  • libwxgtk2.8-2.8.12-3pclos2011
  • libwxsvg0-1.1.9-1pclos2012
  • mpgtx-1.3.1-2pclos2007
  • netpbm-1034-4pclos2007
  • wxsvg-1.1.9-1pclos2012
  • xine-ui-0.99.6-1pclos2011
there is no problem with DVDStyler.
However after a 131 package update (kde-4.9.2 + ??) the problem has also come to this version.
A check of the above mentioned dvdstyler (+ deps) shows that they have not been changed during the update.
This is as far as my current search goes in tracking down which package is responsible for this misbehavior.

Anybody any idea how to progress now

I would extract the ISO to a folder and check that all the video files are present, and also of course check that the correct control files were also generated for the DVD.

Try to decide if the problem is with the linking of the menu item/s to the playable files or the playable files themselves.

Has stopped creating 'buttons' on my box too.

Code: [Select]
Multiplexing subpictures into mpeg
Menu has 2 group(s) of changeable colours.
Executing command: spumux -P -s 0 "/home/uggy/tmp/dvd-tmp/menu1-0.mpg_spumux.xml"
DVDAuthor::spumux, version 0.7.0.
Build options: gnugetopt imagemagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig
Send bug reports to <dvdauthor-users@lists.sourceforge.net>
INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL
spumux: Unable to load file (/home/uggy/tmp/dvd-tmp/menu1-0.mpg_buttons.png).
WARN: Bad image,  skipping line -1

I select 'preview' & 'burn' , so I can check menu's.

First result:
I made a dvd-good.iso (before the 'kde-4.9.2 + ??' update) and a dvd-error.iso (after the 'kde-4.9.2 + ??' update).
These two file have the same good/error behavior in VLC as described in the first post.
The sha1sums of the various files in the *.iso are:

bash-4.1$ pwd
/home/atolboo/DVDStyler/good/ISO9660/VIDEO_TS
bash-4.1$ sha1sum V*

bash-4.1$ cd ~/DVDStyler/error/ISO9660/VIDEO_TS/
bash-4.1$ sha1sum V*

bash-4.1$
The files VTS_01_0.* (all non-ascii 18/18/162kb files and probably contains the menu) are not equal.
The file VTS_01_1.VOB is much larger and probably contains the video file.

Any idea how to progress from this result ???

It fails at 'menu creation' - long before .iso stage.

Running in de-bug mode (keeps temp files), it creates all files required, but when spumux(part of dvdauthor) attempts to use 3 image files(transparencies .png) it decides images are bad and ignores. Searching around web, it seems to use ImageMagic.

I have tried downgrading ImageMagic, but still no work.

I have an old 64bit test installed(abandoned - not updated since end August). DVDSyler still works on there.

Experimenting, using the same initial files + template, it generates fully functional Dvd.

Pic showing temp files from non-working & working.

So it seems temp files are created, but can't be used.

I trash canned 3 dvd+r discs before I found this thread on the forum. Is this something that is a messed up dependency or something? I need to burn a DVD of some anniversary photos, so I'll try mint 12 on the laptop.

I installed DVD Styler on mint 12 and it worked fine if that's any help. I am using mint 12 with the KDE desktop and just updated it yesterday.

I'm having the same problem with DVDstyler. It creates the menu image, but the buttons don't work.  Here is a log created by the Generate DVD dialog:

While I'm waiting to try out the DVDStyler update, can anyone tell me if there is a video file converter that will convert .flv files (and others) to .mpg files in a batch mode...one at a time...without turning ten short video clips into one long movie during the conversion process ???? What I'd REALLY love to find is the Linux equivalent of Pinnacle Studio Plus, but it doesn't seem there is any such animal in the Linux world. Just hoping... ;D

Thanks for your input!

Andy
