;) first, hello to all you hard working pclos staff.  I have not posted in probably over 2 years, but still am a die hard PCLOS desktop lover.

Unfortunately,  I have a problem that is leading to this post.   I did a huge update including some new kde files via Synaptic.   I was forced into a reboot last evening for a desktop error, but on load the GUI takes me to a new login screen for PCLOS Gnome?  I was kind of stunned as I have used KDE and kde 4 for about 10 years now....primarily with PCLOS (thanks again team).  ( need to make another repo donation too).  Anyway,  have been with PCLOS so long have been dinking around with usual fix-its on command line, but can't seem to start kde as system keeps saying X server is already running and other issues.  I am in the country where Internet is dog slow, so downloading latest .iso to run a repair install is about 2 days away....however not a horrible option.  But, thought I would hint to the great people here and get more than just my head's ideas going to fix this quicker.

So, any ideas and I will be happy to try anything you all might have in your suggestion thoughts on this one....thanks.  Typed btw on my galaxy note.....nice tablet/phone combo

Hi bigsite,

nice you showed up and nice to know there are so many more people using this great OS than come to the forums.

First question here always is:

Did you do a full update? and when was the previous update before that? If you don't update at least once a month (or more often) you might break the system (or better the updates might do it for you).

Any output during boot that might help to track down the problem?
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Well, dmsg...init stuff, x11 all didn't hint at anything....and, if I try to login to Gnome I get kicked out to login screen as fast as it comes up.
