SOLVED Dolphin Preview Size
« on: March 29, 2013, 11:48:44 AM »
Good day, in Dolphin there is an option someplace where you can set the Preview Size so it will only display the data over a certain size. I came across this option one day and changed it so I could Preview larger files. I wanted to change it again however I can't remember where the option is??? I have searched through Dolphin options, Configure You Desktop, Folder View settings on the desktop but my old eyes are just not finding it? I am getting frustrated as I did find it once before. Searching the forms there are references to this option but they are very old and do not tell you where it is???

Can someone take pity on me and point me to where this is??? Whenever I find something that I consider of value I usually keep a notebook of hints and tips but I did not write this one down so its causing me a lot of frustration.

thanks...Ron

I don't understand what you mean by this:

"set the Preview Size so it will only display the data over a certain size"

Dolphin options related to previews are these:

Sorry, let me try this again. If I have a folder with some pictures in it, for example .jpg, they would normally show as say a blue folder, mine is blue with a balloon in it. I use Preview to see what each picture is however some pictures will not show, they remain as blue folder. The reason is that somewhere there is an option for preview where you set the file size to preview or not to preview. Say its set at 1meg. This means that any picture less than 1 meg will show as the picture but any picture over 1 meg will show as a blue folder. This option allows you to change the default to say 5meg and then anything 5meg or less will display.

There are references in the forum to this however I cannot find anywhere where it describes where it is. I did find it once but cannot remember where I found it.

Hope that helps.

OK, now I got it.

The option to specify a maximum file size for local previews has been removed from Dolphin, as it did not make any sense: The time to generate a preview does not necessarily depend on the file size. E.g. for a preview of a video only one frame at the start of the file can be considered, which would be quite fast even if the video has a size of 1 GB. Also e.g. JPEG allows to embed previews so that even for very huge JPEGs a preview can be generated very fast.

So Dolphin does not specify any limit at all for local files and lets it up to the thumbnailer to provide a (hopefully) quick preview.

The file size limit for remote file is still supported to limit the bandwidth required to read and parse the file to generate a preview (see my second screenshot)
