Mine went back to not functioning properly again shortly after my last post.

Now it mounts partitions, but does not display the mounted icon, and will not unmount the same partition.

Previously it worked properly after removing and replacing the widget ......  now it behaves just as yours does.

Same problem appeared on my main installation (Toshiba laptop running 2012.12 KDE minime fully updated through PASS).
Device mounts but Device Notifier doesn't show the "Eject" button (it shows as unmounted).
I made a new 2012.12 KDE minime installation on the same machine and another one in VirtualBox (under WinXP in my office machine) and those don't have that problem. I will try install everything I have on my main installation, one step at a time, to see if it is a certain package that causes this behaviour.

After some testing I think I found something.

On a newly installed system, the only option available in Device Notifier is "Open With File Manager".
In my main installation I have many more options. The problem seems to occur when a new option is added in Device Notifier for SMPlayer.

At least this happened in my case.
After installing SMPlayer, the option "Play DVD with SMPLayer" appeared alongside the default "Open with File Manager".
From that point on, Device Notifier is misbehaving.

Removing and replacing the widget has no effect.
I will explore the options for each entry to see if I can come up with something.

You do indeed appear to be on to something .........  I have this minute tried removing the Open With Smplayer (maybe another one or two but I don't think so) entries and now Device Notifier appears to be working!

A lot more time and testing needed of course ......  but this does look promising!!!!!!!!

;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Couple of questions:
- Do you still have other options in Device Notifier (like VLC, Gwenview etc) working?
- Did you remove the entry as user or as root?

I also removed the entry for SMPlayer (had to log on as root to do that) leaving only the default (Open with File Manager).
Device Manager returned to normal. Did a couple of reboots and all was fine.
Then I installed Gwenview and a new entry appeared: "Download photos with Gwenview".
Device Notifier seems to be working fine so far with those two entries.

NOTE: I guess the problem is the SMPlayer entry but I'm not yet sure.
I will install a couple more programs that add entries to device notifier and report back.

Device Notifier is working with the entries below .......  I removed the extra couple of SMPlayer entries that were there, leaving the one that could not be removed as user. All others are as they were

EDIT
BTW .....  reinstalling SMPLayer does not bring back the deleted entries.

Well, the problems seems indeed to be the entry for SMPlayer.
Installed VLC and Digikam, none of them caused trouble in Device Manager's behaviour.

So what's wrong with the SMPLayer entry?

The entry's name is "Play DVD with SMPlayer".
Judging by the name, it is intended to display a popup when a DVD is inserted and let you play it with SMPlayer.
But looking at the settings, this is not the case.

The parameter The device must be of the type Storage Volume is causing the trouble.
Parameter Type: Device Interface Match
Device Type: Storage Volume

It's telling Device Manager to popup the option for SMPlayer when a storage device is plugged in regardless its content.

So, I changed the entry like this:
Parameter Type: Property Match
Device Type: Optical Disc
Value Name: Available Content
Equals: VideoDvd

Now the option for SMPlayer popups only when an optical disc containing DVD Video is inserted.

After that change, my Device Manager works as it should.
Of course, it is easier to simply remove the SMPlayer entry (from the root account).
But if you want to have it for playing DVD's like it is intended, you could alter the entry's settings as above (again from the root account).

I don't know if this issue can be fixed from our packager or the developer of the application.

EDIT
BTW .....  reinstalling SMPLayer does not bring back the deleted entries.

I only had one entry for SMPlayer (Play DVD with SMPlayer) that I couldn't remove as user.
And reinstalling SMPlayer was bringing it back.

You say you had multiple entries. That's something new :)
What are the properties of the single entry you have now?

Why did you have multiple entries for SMPlayer?

I have no idea  :D

Not something I did deliberately.

Also please note the difference between our two experiences ......  I only removed the other entries, leaving the one showing in the pic and all is working as it should.

That worries me a little ....
