Yes, read my post #25. I changed them to be similar to VLC and Kaffeine and the problem with Device Manager disappeared.

What I find strange is that you still have the entry and Device Notifier is working...
Plus, you had multiple entries for SMPlayer...

The entry for Dragon Player might be more correct .......  not sure though.

Can you post a pic of what is now in your setup please ---  similar to the pic I posted?

Here is a pic of my setup, after the change I've made to the SMPlayer entry:

I installed Dragon Player to check what you mentioned. I believe the result would be the same in both cases...

Thanks.

Your SMPlayer entry now shows "Storage Volume, Optical Disc"

mine only "Storage Volume"

That and the following are the only obvious differences

File Manager entry for camera
DragonPlayer entry

In any case I think you have cracked it.
The problem appears to be the settings in the SMPlayer entry.

I have no idea what generates those entries ..... any info on that?

I think those entries are generated during package installation but I'm not sure.

Good thing it's relatively easy to edit them or create new ones... :)

I edited the SMPlayer entry (as root) to the same set up as the Dragon Player.

In truth I could easily do without all those entries as I never use them.

....  there's a thought .....  maybe I will delete them all and stop that annoying feature of Device Notifier offering me options in a pop-up!

Sounds like a plan  :D

EDIT ...........  except I cannot seem to delete those entries  :(  :(

Is there some clearly defined factor which decides if a DN entry is deletable or not?

I found the location of the files that generate the Device Actions in Device Notifier ........

/usr/share/apps/solid/actions/

They are  .desktop  files which are generated when the application is installed.
They are removed when the application is removed.

Such 'action' files generated by the user (not system-wide) are stored in

~/.kde4/share/apps/solid/actions/

I created a new folder under  /usr/share/apps/solid/actions/  (as root) and moved all the device actions into it.
Closed and reopened Device Notifier and all those annoying (to me) actions have gone!

Yeah!

So my conclusion is that SMPlayer is generating an incorrect action .desktop file on installation.
That is what has been screwing up Device Notifier.

I feel that the package should be rebuilt with a corrected action file content and all should be well.

Other ideas?

They can be deleted by going to the /usr/share/apps/solid/actions/  folder as root ......  delete or move them at will  ;)

I forgot to mention .....

one file must remain in the

/usr/share/apps/solid/actions/

directory to allow Device Notifier to see any devices. That file is called

/usr/share/apps/solid/actions/test-predicate-openinwindow.desktop

It is the 'open with file manager' action.

Once that is there Device Notifier works and will offer Device Actions depending on the application-specific .destop file present in
/usr/share/apps/solid/actions/
and
~/.kde4/share/apps/solid/actions/

I am happy to say that I now have a very clean Device Notifier working properly.
I moved all the available 'action' files to a sub folder so I am not annoyed by Dev Notifier popups showing me what actions are available.

A BIG THANK YOU  agmg!

I am not certain this is the complete answer .....  but it is certainly a contributing factor.

Thanks for the quick response in updating SMPlayer.  ;)
