Fall Back 1 Hour Time Change
« on: November 05, 2012, 12:21:46 PM »
Hello All
On 04Nov2012, all my computers running NTP and Java-1.6.0 set the time back one hour after 01:59:59 and then when 01:59:59 came up again the time changed for a second time. The problem is with my Red Hat computers at work and I can't find this problem using google. This happens every year in the fall. Anyone here ever experienced this problem?
Thank You, Roy

You really should ask Red Hat rather than pclos!

That said, I can guess what is happening here. You have two errors relating to Time Zone, local time and UTC which cancel out in the Summer so you see the correct time, but the hardware clock is an hour behind system time. When 01:59:59 comes round, NTC sets one of the clocks back an hour, but the hardware clock (must be set to UTC) doesn't change. An hour later the clock calculated from that reaches 01:59:59 and your system sets the time back again.

As you have NTP active, the second change should be corrected at the next NTP sync.

But it's really a matter for Red Hat.

I'll try asking Red Hat but I only have support for updates with "self support". I use PCLinuxOS at home.
I do set my hardware clocks to UTC time (date -u)

What is NTC?

Thanks for the information.
