Major sites and platforms are experiencing outages today, including at least Dropbox and Google App Engine. At the time of writing it’s unclear how the two downtimes are related, but Tumblr’s performance issues earlier today point to a clue.

The blogging company told us in a statement: “Tumblr is experiencing network problems following an issue with one of our uplink providers. Recovery is moving quickly and we will return to full service shortly.” Internet Traffic Report is reporting major packet loss in North America as well as issues in Asia (the problem is large enough that it’s spilling into the rest of the world):

Currently just put a link in my task-bar, went to open and it won't open. Never had this problem before. I can log on they Firefox. Just recently reinstalled & updated (using full Monty under a second account). I reinstalled Dropbox. I can't for the life of me figure this out.
