Simple:  that would not entail messing with everybody's lives, which seems to be the sole purpose of government these days.  (And don't worry - that's as political as I'm gonna get right now.)

With more modern employers going to flex-time scheduling to accomodate modern lifestyles, there really is no need for DST.  As YouCanToo said, the farmers (for whom DST was ostensibly devised in the first place) get up early anyway.

Yeah, I'd better shut up now, else I feel a rant just waiting to bust out, and I don't want that happening right now.

I would rather keep it set to Daylight saving time all year round.  I really like having the extra hour of daylight in the evening to do things outdoors.  I much rather have that than keeping it set to standard time if we had the choice to leave it one way or the other.

Hey, just go to work earlier and go home earlier, or do your chores in the morning  .

Here, in France, in the summer midday (solar) occurs at 2 pm.  What's that all about?

I often awake up at 4 to 5 in the morning.  Then go to work at 6 or 7 am.  (I'm self-employed).
