Hard to read
« on: October 05, 2012, 01:02:08 PM »
I started to post this on the "Site Suggestions" board but that isn't appropriate if what I'm looking for already exists and I just can't find it. Here's my issue...

The Notifications Pop-up is a useful tool. However, my old eyes just can't see like they used to. When I look at the pop-up I think there is information (like filenames) that is presented as a relatively dark blue text on a black background (on my computer). I'm hoping there is (or can be) a way to heighten the contrast between the text in this window and the pop-up window background.

I use the Oxygen Desktop theme and I've tried some others but either there is no change in the contrast - or it reverses to white text on a very light background.

Any suggestions will be appreciated - Thank You.

this is part of kde themes, you can change them

open configure your desktop that can be found under the start menu/more applications/configuration/configure your desktop

on there under workspace appearance and behavior/workspace appearance/desktop theme

it should be a list there of already installed and you can install more

on one of the tabs you can edit other elements but not the font size or color of it

that is done on another place, under common appearance/application appearance

This is a reason that a lot of us with old eyes need to sign up for the kde forum and keep reminding them that their notifications that stay up just long enough to notice but not long enough to read with "old eyes" is a problem for many of us.

It does not bother me as much as it used to because I discovered that if you click on the white triangle in the panel at the bottom of the screen, it will show the icons that are not currently active such as the notifications icon. You can then click on the notifications icon and the last notification will be displayed again until you make it go away thus giving you the time to put on your reading glasses and decipher it.

I played around with a few of these, but I don't think it accomplished what I was wanting. I really appreciate the suggestion(s), but it seems it would take 3-4 lifetimes for a noob to study and learn what's necessary to modify KDE behavior.

Whenever Windows lets me down as I try to do things that are important to me... I try doing them in Linux. Alas, when Linux lets me down I revert back to Windows.

Sometimes I feel like a kid with a new electric typewriter (remember those?)... all I can do is hit the "A" key 'cause I haven't learned what all the other keys mean (or do) yet !!

well, if you could describe us what exactly you need to change, perhaps with a image pointing to the exact field or with the desired object to change, we all noobs(we all are, specially me) could help each other and find the setting you wish to modify, in one lifetime, perhaps before december 21 preferably  :D

i will always dualboot, so both will have to do what i want them to do, none is allowed to letting me down, i always find a solution, workaround or tip, specially if what i want is important
