« on: October 28, 2012, 07:28:57 AM »
Just upgraded my desktop pc in synaptic and now my wireless dongle (sumvision svw322u), cant detect any wireless networks!  Network center refresh shows nothing.
I plugged the dongle into a laptop without the latest upgrades and it works fine.
Also kget has disapeared. I try tom download it in synaptic message-
kdenetwork-kget:
 Depends: libkgetcore.so.4
Depends: libktorrent.so.5  but it is not installable

in a computer where it works, unplug it, wait for 5 seconds, plug it back in,wait for 5 seconds and then run this command on the terminal and post its output.

dmesg | tail -n 40

Those logs are not very informative.

can you go and look at synaptic history to see what package was last updated?

When did you update?
when did you last update before the latest time?

what wireless card are you using?

There is atleast one wireless card that is known to break on update, i wonder if yours is the same.

I had the same thing happen to me where my laptop
no longer could see any wifi networks, so here's what I did.

I used an ethernet connection to my wifi router to get
internet connection.  Then I went into synaptic and
loaded two wifi management programs - Wifi radar,
and Wicd Network Manager.

With these programs I was able to see that my laptop
was able to still see wifi networks, but they were not
being accessed.  They seemed to suggest that a driver
was not installed when I used their setup wizards.

Somehow (I really don't know the exact steps) in playing
with the settings I got the wifi card/system to reset itself
and apparently load the wifi driver, because then the wifi
networks I could see with the above two apps where able
to be seen with the Network Connection app you see when
you click on the wifi icon on the taskbar.  Once the wifi
networks where able to be seen as before I could login as
normal.

I hope that gives you something to try to get back to normal.

I am in the same boat and I did try to  delete the connection and restart from scratch no joy it
