KDE 4.9
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:17:54 PM »
I was doing an update to my laptop this afternoon but had to cancel due to lack of time.   I realized that this was the big update for KDE 4.9.

I'll be doing this update to my systems this weekend.

Just curious, do we have to backup or desktop settings or will all our virtual desktops, wallpapers, etc. be retained/restored?

For the moment, just stay clear of digikam because it is the only app that we are aware that is broken on 4.9.2.

Good to know it went well for you. Some are not so "lucky". ;)

Desktop setings re intact. My analog Plasma clock widget didn't display correctly een though I restarted the system.  I did a complete shut down and powered back up and al is well.:) Clock displays fine.:)  Gonna check KMyMoney.:) Works on the laptop...and works on my main box.:)

Thanks, Archie.:)  Very nice!  Many thanks to the entire dev team.:)

After the last experiences I was worried too but this was a smoother update.

any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

I think the jump from KDE 4.6.5 to 4.8.x was the biggest hurdle, things should now be fairly plain sailing

Just mentioning a small thing I noted.

The Turning off computer in xx seconds dialog on clicking Power button has the left side of the text running off the button. This probably is a thing with KDE 4.9 as I have seen the same behaviour in an updated Chakra installation too.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Yep!:)  Just pudated my office laptop and running fine.  the only thing I've noticed on two of the systems (main box and office laptop) is the analog clock plasma widget doesn't load/display properly when KDE comes up.  If I toggle desktop themes, one to another, it then displays.

Georgetoon, in your analogue clock settings untick the "show second hand" and your clock will display fine all the time... only without the "tick tock tick tock second hand".

Helmut.

Thanks.:)  I'll give that a try.  I'm going to try changing themes first to see what happens.:)

Yes, that works.:) Turn off the second hand and the clock displays.  Thank you again.:)  Changing the theme did not affect it much.

I like having the second hand, though.:)  So, I guess I'll be toggling on and off as I start/shutdown my system.:)

Chilly,

it's the KSplash that is missing. In Configure You Desktop > Start Screen you may have "Horos" selected. Select a different one, apply, and if you like, select "Horos" again.
