U.S. Accuses Megaupload User of Storing Pirated Music
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:49:40 PM »
Quote
By seizing the servers of Megaupload, the U.S. Government also confiscated the personal belongings of many innocent users. One entrepreneur has asked the court to return his data but this request is meeting resistance from the authorities. The U.S. Government points out that the Megaupload user in question may not technically be the owner of his uploaded files. In addition they accuse him of hosting pirated copies of popular music.
Ever since the raids in January, the fate of Megaupload users’ personal files has remained uncertain.

So ... that's how they want to play it now. Since the U.S. gov't's case against Kim Dotcom and Megaupload is mostly falling apart, it looks like they are going after the users of the service now. Shameful. Here's an idea ... let's stop pandering to the special interests (and whims) of the entertainment industry and create copyright and patent laws THAT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE and that everyone can live with! The current laws of awarding copyrights for the lifespan of the author +70 years, and patents for what seems to be an indefinite/infinite time period are just too much. Let's create copyrights that expire in 15 years (and I think that's more than generous) and patents that follow the patent system used in the pharmaceutical field ... 7 years.

Let me fix that for you in relation to all media  :D ;D

after which it should revert to commons  ;)

Kim Dotcom: US “planted” evidence to obtain illegal search warrants

......  well not QUITE .......  but apparently they encourage him to retain the very files they referenced in their application/s to court .......  but I see a problem for Dotcom in this ......  as the authorities did not communicate with him directly, but through Carpathia they will surely deny such 'encouragement' and claim it was Dotcom disregarding the law .....  which would be really very stupid after he became aware the files were known to the authorities ......

It can be surprising what is revealed when court documents are unsealed  :D

Dotcom showed already that his company was removing the files that industry claimed as their property, I don't think he left any; the Judge won't want gossip, he will require probes, slowly Dotcom has been strengthening his position.

any good therefore that I can do,

He did leave those 36/39? files which were the subject of the investigation in 2010 ......  says he believed he was supposed to keep them so as not to alert whoever uploaded them that there was an investigation in progress .....  and those same files are the ones that have been used against him ......

I was talking about all the others files that they retired on request by the movies and record companies

Yes I realised that .....  but was pointing out that "I don't think he left any" was not quite correct as he had left the 36/39(?) files in place, which form the basis of the court actions .....  according to Dotcom.   ;)
