[SOLVED] Re: Upgrade Virtualbox
« on: October 31, 2012, 03:33:07 AM »
Hi all, I've used VB for years and whenever a new version comes out I just upgrade from the script provided by Synaptic.  I'm using 4.1.18, 4.2.0 has come and gone and now I get the popup for 4.2.2.

When I search "Getvirtualbox" in Synaptic I'm still getting 4.1.18. (and I always refresh/reload first)

Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers

getvirtualbox version 4.2.2 is in repos, in the "updates" section.

Which repo mirror are you using ?

For example, the Calgary mirror hasn't updated since August and so still has getvirtualbox-4.1.18.
Check here for the current list of valid mirrors.

or if you update your system you will get the updated apt-sources-list and that will remove outdated mirrors

Will the apt-sources-list be updated if the mirror is outdated?

of course, as soon as I know about it, that is the purpose of apt-sources-list, see here

I mean, if someone is using an outdated mirror, like i.e. Calgary, how can he get the updated apt-sources-list from that mirror?
Wouldn't that list also be outdated? And of course the system wouldn't update properly...

The only way is to edit the current list according to the related thread...

No, that isn't the only way. Switch to a different mirror.

Yes, but, as the apt-sources-list of a system using an outdated mirror is not current, there will also be other outdated mirrors in it.
So there is a chance to fall into another outdated mirror. Small chance, of course.

I guess when changing mirrors, one should also have a look to that thread... :)
