[SOLVED] Application upgrade question
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:25:58 PM »
Hi,

Can someone please tell when gcc, perl, python packages would be upgraded? Most apps like firefox, libreoffice gets a version bump but gcc, perl and other dev apps are lagging behind, so just curious to know when they would be updated.

Also i couldn't find synapse application launcher in repos, can i put a request for the same?

Thanks.

Go to the package request section and provide the required info for a new package .....  see the 'stickies' in the thread for information ...

Gcc, Gclib, perl, python and devs apps (the tool chain) are not the easiest ones to update/ugrade!

Gcc, Gclib is a part of the toolchain (needs to be updated when applications don't compile against it).
Updating programming languages like python, perl needs to rebuild more then 1000+ applications who are in repository who depends on it.

Guess that's not a easy task for the packagers/testers/processors.
Needs a lot of time with a little dev team and volunteers who want's to test it.

Ok, yes, that makes sense. Just wanted to know if there was any plan for the dev pkg upgrade as well. Will wait then. Marking the post solved.

Thanks.
