downlowded printer drivers
« on: October 30, 2012, 04:24:55 PM »
Hi New to PC Linux have got a Epson SX440 series printer There is no driver on the OS but on investigation it says that a Mac OS X intel printer driver will work so I have down loaded the Mac driver for the SX440 and have stored it in my home files in downloads.
So can some one now help me to configar the printer . i go to Config printer--Add --Then there does not seem to give you an option to brows for a driver (as it does in windows) Help.

I would be very surprised if an OSX driver (BSD kernel) would work on a Linux kernel.

I am also surprised you can't select your printer from the menu in CUPS or PCC, since it sounds a common enough model. Are you sure it isn't listed?

I had a look .....  SX 400, 405, 410 & 415 .......  I did not see any others listed ....

There seems to be a solution.

http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/epson_stylus_sx440.html

I didn´t find this VueScan in our repo´s but maybe it isn´t too hard to install.

Since not in the repo, better try a "disposable install" first.

EDIT:  On the same page .... This driver seems to work with your printer.

That's the scanner driver - evidently it's a combined printer/scanner. However, if you go to the Epson website and enter the model number you will be taken to a download page for both printer and scanner drivers.

Another thing to try might be the 3.4.11 kernel in testing, which might have support for newer printers than the current kernel.

The openprinting driver seems the way to go since the company doesn't provide drivers for Liinux

It's been uploaded to dropbox. As far as I know, it's not in testing yet.

Yes, and I was offered four Linux drivers - two related to the printer and two for the scanner.

That's because you haven't selected "Linux" as your operating system. You're asking for drivers for no OS at all, and they don't exist!

If you had followed my link, rather than your own, this would have been done for you.
