Virtual Box-Minime
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:59:39 PM »
Tried to install minime in virtual box. stops on first splash screen.
I searched before I posted this and found nothing relevant.
Could someone point me to the right thread if there is one, or give me some advice on what I am doing wrong.
Thank you in advance.

Joe, are you using a minime ISO or did you first burn the ISO to CD/DVD ?
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

It's burned to a cd and is a live cd .

As we speak though, I kept trying it over and over and it finally booted up. I don't know why it took so many tries to boot. Right now the progress bar is showing that it is half installed. I will report this solved in a bit if this works.

I am trying to make a fully tweaked master minime to install on another computer, as Crow recommended to Rudge. Thought it was a great idea to take your time and do it as time allows.

Thanks for helping menotu.

If you still have the minime ISO to hand you could load that in place of the CD.

Hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs,  ;) this is done in the same place as adding a CD - VBox > Settings > Storage  and instead of using the Host Drive drill down to where the ISO is located.

Well, I achieved questionable success. I rebooted and when I opened the virtual box, minime was installed. I opened and got a desktop. I clicked on the upper right cashew to download pycashew to hide it. Just a quick thing to do to see if things were working. I clicked on the cashew. The screen went black and can't do a thing.
Got some work to do it seems.

Joe,
no need to download pycashew which does not work anyway. Go in Synaptic and install togglecashew.

Hi

I've had the same issue but with the full version of KDE. I had to up the RAM allowed to 1 GB and the video to max RAM.

Hope this helps.

Rick.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Toggle Cashew it is.
However, the whole thing has disappeared from my computer. It now says there is nothing to boot. So I will install it again and see what happens.

I will do that now as I am about to attempt the install again. Thank you.

I tried and tried the other way and no go. I thought I would give the ISO a shot as you suggested. It read the ISO but it stopped at the splash screen progress bar the same as the burned CD. The MD5 matches so I know I have a good download.

Not sure what to do next but will keep trying.

Thank You.

OK, I am about to pull out all my chimp hair.  ::)

I got so frustrated that I decided to remove virtualbox from my computer. Went into synaptic. Marked for complete removal. Also the associated files that download with it. Removed it all then later I decide to reinstall it, in case virtualbox was the problem.
Well, I go through with downloading it again and it opens up to the same set up I had before I removed everything. How did that happen. It is the virtualbox from hell. I did it 3 times with the same result.
I hope someone will tell me the dumb A** thing I did wrong so I can dope slap myself.

Thank you for putting up with this thread.

I don't have problems very often with PCLinuxOS but when I do, they are always strange.

LATEST:

No progress. I deleted the existing drive from virtual box again. Configured a new one , then tried loading the iso again. It goes along fine until I get to the splash screen. Then freezes.
I tried booting livecd without splash and it hangs in text.  Last line of text is --- Making extra modes:
So I am lost for a solution.
I really wanted to make a MiniMe remaster in virtual box. It would have been fun to work on it from time to time until I got it right.
