KSnapshot fails after upgrade-> moved to Go back?
« on: October 28, 2012, 03:36:22 PM »
Ran system upgrade from Synaptic a few minutes ago, today, 28 October. Now KSnapshot crashes when you snap on "Copy to" in order to print.
Tried to file a bug, but I forgot my password on the bug report system, and there does not seem to be any way to reset it.  So here it is.

In Synaptic search for the 3 lib packages, mark for upgrade, install.

Synaptic:
libkdcraw
libkexiv2
libkipi

I did a "reload" in Synaptic, the I installed libkexiv2, which had not been, and then I marked libkdcraw and libkipi for reinstallation and applied all.  KSnapshot still crashes on send to.

I didn't realise the "Send to" command was there.  It has functioned well here without crashing.  Try running ksnapshot from a terminal.

EDIT: removing the Ksnapshot config file may fix the problem.

I was trying to consolidate this into the other thread, but as long as I'm here. . . .

There are several snapshotrc which may be config files.

[doug@Linux1 ~]$ locate ksnapshotrc
/home/doug/.kde4/share/config/ksnapshotrc
/home/doug/.kde4-Jun21/share/config/ksnapshotrc
/home/doug/.kde4-new/share/config/ksnapshotrc
/home/doug/.kde4_messedup/.kde4.bak/share/config/ksnapshotrc
/home/doug/.kde4_messedup/share/config/ksnapshotrc

A typical file reads lie this:[GENERAL]
delay=0
filename[$e]=file://$HOME/Documents/snapshot1.png
includeDecorations=true
includePointer=false
mode=2

[MainWindow]
Height 1080=499
Width 1920=471

Should I rm all of them? Rename them? I don't see anything else that looks like a config file.

Don't know how you could miss the send to option--how else would you print the results?

Thanx for the input.

Just after I wrote the last post, I looked at the terminal results of trying to run KAnapshot from the command line. (The results were the same as from the GUI--it crashed at send to.)

Here's the terminal outpput. Note that I tried to locate a config file, but I got a peculiar answer.  Here's the whole exchange.

[doug@Linux1 ~]$ ksnapshot
ksnapshot(12069)/KIPI (general) KIPI::Interface::progressThumbnailChanged: This should only be invoked if the host application supports KIPI::Features ( HostSupportsProgressBar ). If host application do support that, then this function should have been overridden in the KIPI host interface.
KCrash: Application 'ksnapshot' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
sock_file=/home/doug/.kde4/socket-Linux1/kdeinit4__0

[1]+  Stopped                 ksnapshot
[doug@Linux1 ~]$ locate ksnapshot.config
[1]+  Exit 253                ksnapshot

The crash message that appears on screen includes this:
Details:
Executable ksnapshot PID 15801 Signal: Segmentation fault (11)

Developer information is as follows:
"The generated crash information is not useful"
Application: KSnapshot (ksnapshot), signal: Segmentation fault

ksnapshot ver 0.8.2
kde ver 4.9.2

Installed (Synaptic)
kde-graphics-ksnapshot 4.9.2-1_archie
removed
kde-graphics 4.8.3-4pclos2012

For the send-to option I have

GIMP
gwenview
KolourPaint
Okular
Or I can use the Other Application and choose something else

Well, kde-graphics-ksnapshot 4.9.2-1 does NOT work here, and I could not look in "send to" to see where it wants to send because it crashes as soon as I snap on that option.
I marked for reinstallation and applied that, but no help. The program is hosed on this machine, and I need it.
PS--it doesn't work in Windows 7 either--whatever version that is--I have KDE for Win installed.  It doesn't even get that far in Windows.
Is there some way I can get a working older version of the program off a different PCLOS machine and install it here, or is there some repo that still has the old version? Or is it a dependency problem, where
it needs some updated lib?

@doughmac
I found some discrepancies in the KDE 4.9.2 updates.
first leftovers from the KDE 4.8.x versions,
In synaptic look very careful to the versions of the programs and if possible remove them.
Also look if the 3 lib's are installed from:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,110281.0.html
libkdcraw
libkexiv2
libkipi

Hope this will help you.

Thank you for the reply.  Right now I'm in th e aftermath of Sandy, and have no connection to the net.  (I'm at the public library.)
So I will not receive a reply for a few days unless the cable connection comes back to life.) Fortunately I have a generator, and there
was no damage to the house.
