[Solved] Inkscape Bug?
« on: October 28, 2012, 03:15:12 PM »
I can't seem to get inkscape to let me do anything with gradients. If I press on the edit gradient button it just shuts down, completely. I got this error from the terminal:
Code: [Select]
Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_paint_layout: assertion `style->depth == gdk_drawable_get_depth (window)' failed
The program 'inkscape' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 143117 error_code 8 request_code 142 minor_code 3)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Man is this frustrating, >:( I use inkscape in conjunction with GIMP for my art, this puts a monkey wrench in my art production. :'( GIMP doesn't want to import svg files and now inkscape doesn't let me work with gradients. ??? Wonder if anybody else has this problem?

Little comfort but Inkscape & gradients are working OK here. A standard up-to-date KDE installation.  No messages at all if started from a terminal, which is a bit of a first for me.

What does not work for the gradient.
Saving as a PDF to work around the missing Gimp svg import.  A few quick tests with different settings and the gradient is only partially rendered. Back to exporting as a raster image.

I just tried my KDE 4.8.3 Live-USB and got the same error. I tried reinstalling gtk 2.0, but still no go. To reproduce this error try:

Select the Create Rectangles and Squares tool,

Make a square,

Choose the Edit objects, colors and gradients,

In the fill tab, choose the  linear gradient,

Click on edit

Click on the gradient and see the stops click on one and then Inkscape crashes.

I can add a stop and delete a stop but I cant edit the stop.

I've just been comparing the Inkscape dependencies with synaptic history over the last up-dates and I can't see anything.
The KDE update so far has caused no problems here.
Maybe it is something that you have recently installed. I had a weird problem on another machine that I put down to dumping LO and installing Calligra and Krita.
Had to roll back to a month old partition image.

maybe problems with imgur - they have changed the site a bit.

I don't think this problem has anything to do with the KDE update. GTK might be the culprit.

Inkscape is just downright unstable on my machine! I even deleted the hidden folder to reset to default, but it still persists. I can't get anything done in it...

Nice to hear from you my friend ;D ,yes, I did what you did, to no avail. :'( I was trying to change a gradient to a darker color, for a Ksplashx I was working on and Inkscape keeps crashing with that error I first posted. I even installed GTK+3, still no go. For us artists that use Inkscape, this is frustrating. Now, I see why we haven't seen any of your masterful art( I truly miss your art, it's inspiring to me).

Peace

I have Inkscape 0.48 and tried to duplicate your crash from your procedure. Well, it's working for me.

Well, it gave me time to install some other distros and rediscover why I love PCLinuxOS so much! lol I'm in Mint LMDE KDE right now, and it's painfully slow in some areas. I'll be back to PCLOS soon enough. lol I figured it was about time to wipe and reinstall. I like to get on the newest ISO every now and then, as it seems to make a difference.

Thanks Linuzoid! I'm still here, just quiet. My system rarely gives me problems, until the other day, and I've been really busy since getting married and gaining a step-daughter that's, now, 8 yrs. old. She can be a handful and is certainly quite a bit of maintenance.

Got it solved, it was the gtk-kde4 rpm and the oxygen-gtk rpm. I removed them via synaptic and install gtk-oxygen-molecule. Ooo, ::) now were rockin'. ;D ;D ;) 8) 8) ;D

Congratulations on getting married. A eight year old is a bundle of energy. It all boils down to time, finding the time that is, to do all that needs to be done. I had to step out for awhile, myself. I miss working on my artwork, hopefully I can start up again.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Peace my friend.

LOL ... I recently installed gtk-kde4 and oxygen-gtk and Inkscape started crashing on the gradients. Funny how GTK configs are not playing well with GTK apps. ;)

Yea it is, even GIMP was acting up with those files installed.
