Having trouble updating through Synaptic [SOLVED]
« on: October 28, 2012, 01:51:24 PM »
We have a private account and when we try to update we get the following error msg:

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

Any idea as to what is going on?

Have a great afternoon!  :)

i fiddled around with Synaptic until i could get "Broken" to show up in the list of possibilities at the left of the window.  Then it was just a matter of clicking on "Broken" and checking the right hand window to see which programs appear with a red box.  Deselect the file(s) and the select Apply to download the rest of the programs.

i had to do this again yesterday - i guess it's still being "held back".

i hope this helps...  Have a wonderful morning!  :)

Thanks, I will have a go on it. Unmarking the broken packages leads to the removal of a whole lot of things which made me careful. I didn´t want to break my friends install as he is ..... 12000 Km´s from here.  Bless Teamviewer!  I will prepare there a installer DVD for in case but .... then there is the trouble with the sources-list on it right now and my friend is NOT "savvy" ... Wish me luck.
