I have just installed caffeine on this sytem ( I thought is was a sound application  ;D) and this is what I get when starting the program

KDE32 Platform 4.9.2  Kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs
Quote
[gert@localhost ~]$ caffeine

Xlib.protocol.request.QueryExtension

(03 Nov 2012) 11:15:53 INFO:  User has clicked the Caffeine icon
(03 Nov 2012) 11:15:53 INFO:  Attempting to detect screensaver/powersaving type... (0 dbus failures so far)
(03 Nov 2012) 11:15:53 INFO:  Successfully detected screensaver and powersaving type: KDE
(03 Nov 2012) 11:15:53 INFO:  Caffeine is now preventing powersaving modes and screensaver activation (KDE)

Initially the icon does not show in the tray but after running it from a user konsole it seems to stay.  I have not waited to see if it actually prevents power save.

Edit:
Whilst user konsole to me seem to indicate that it should work it does not seem to.  Clicking on the icon does appear as if there should be changed conditions.  Whatever position my screensaver cuts in.

I must say that I have no experience with using power saving as I am not running notebooks yet, where I expect I would be more interested. I think some of my systems will blank the screen when not used for a long time.

Do a search for "application-x-executable' icon. If you don't find it, you might need to install or reinstall an icon theme.
Most likely the Gnome Icon Theme, or Oxygen Icon Theme.

You are seeing the same problem you help me solve in my Blueman issue. Am I now the student teaching the master?  ;)
I was once a sinner, but I have seen the light. Linux saved me!
