SOLVED Printer for new install
« on: October 27, 2012, 05:39:37 PM »
I've just installed  PCLinuxOS Phoenix XFCE4.8 to my secondary HD.  My primary has the Gnome Edition.  I've been unable to install my HP Photosmart C5180 printer to the XFCE Edition.  I've done a forum search and I've followed the suggestions here: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,101840.0.html and the accompanying imbedded links.  I haven't been successful using PCC, and can't connect to the localhost server (cups server error).  I've got task-printing and task-printing-hp and all of the other task-printing files in Synaptic installed and reinstalled, but still no luck.  What is the trick to getting a printer installed?  Thanks--

Well, SOMEHOW  ???  This issue resolved itself(!) after restarting a bunch of times after I had done some menu.lst editing.  Before, I wasn't able to connect to the localhost server in PCC, and after trying unsuccessfully to get it installed via cups, localhost:631/admin -- authentication username and password kept failing -- I tried going back to PCC and, for some reason this time I WAS able to connect to the PCC server, and all went well from there.  I (to my knowledge) didn't actually do anything to fix it myself, but will mark it as solved just the same.

;D Thank you gremlins!  Phoenix is pretty interesting, although maybe a little buggy at this point in my experimentation.  Not as bad as some of the other distros I tried prior to it.  The PCLinuxOS products still seems to be the easiest to use, but maybe just because I'm used to it.
