I downloaded a program from Synaptic called busyhot.  It seemed to load OK, but I can't find it in the menus.  Any help would be appreciated.

It doesn't look like it is a standard app that can be launched.  It appears to be a gnome panel applet.

Yes, I think you're right.... when it was downloading, I noticed a lot of gnome programs being downloaded as well.

Is there a program I can download from synaptic that monitors the cpu frequency?  I can't seem to find any except for busyhot.

I tried to download widgets but none seem to load up when I try to install.

You could try the CpuFreqDisplay widget which can be added via the Add Widgets > Get New Widgets
