[SOLVED] PASS repository has untested versions
« on: October 24, 2012, 11:22:16 PM »
I have seen a couple of threads reporting problems updating to KDE 4.9.2, so I was warned.  I have just this minute re-loaded Synaptic and there is a long array of 'updates' mainly of KDE packages.

Presumably, we should not update from PASS?

I would wait for Archie to make an announcement that it is all in place. It takes a while just to upload all of the kde packages. I can't even imagine how long it takes to build them. ;)

The notion was suggested by our lead developer. My explanation is on the following thread - http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,110263.0.html

It occurs to me that a location for people to file reports of difficulties may help with development.

but all I can assure you all is that I did my best with what knowledge I have learned in my short stint as packager for our distro.

If I may be so bold Archie, your best is pretty darned good.

but his position as lead developer of PCLinuxOS has put him on serious health issues ...

I had noticed Neal hadn't been posting as much as normal so this explains why, plus with Tex not being so "hands on" the extra packaging responsibility is on Neal's shpulders - hope you get well soon Neal

Thank you for your confidence in me, menotu. It is much appreciated.

Neal is OK. He just needs to rest because when he gets on his packaging tasks, there's no stopping him until he's clear everything. And IMO that's really bad, especially when he can only get a fee hours sleep. Neal needs much of our support and understanding. There is no cause for any alarm on his ability. We are urging him to just take it easy and not overdo things.

Big +1!

I (like all others, I assume) am extremely grateful for the work done by Neal and all developers/packagers. It would be tragic if this would have a negative effect on one of you guys.

Please take good care of yourselves! All of you!!!
