Splash screen no longer works after KDE 4.9.2 upgrade (Solved)

I had the gray splash screen (possibly named pulse) working before the KDE 4.9.2 upgrade. After the upgrade the splash screen was removed. I installed a different splash screen from synaptic but can't find the original gray one. Is it not available with the new KDE?

Seems 4.9.2 is uploaded by accident on the pass server  (don't know for sure).
The packages are not processed for to use when I look in Synaptic.
Maybe Neal can give more info?

Which splash? KDM? Grub splash? Something else?     
Or do you mean the plymouth boot theme?     
Most applications have a splash, so telling us exactly which splash you are talking about would give us the info needed to answer your question.

Not an accident, John.    

It appears after you login, it has five symbols that appear, one is a hard drive the next is a screwdriver and wrench the next is the earth the next is the desktop symbol and then the KDE symbol.
You can make a change to it in KDE control center under workspace appearance and behavior>workspace appearance>splash screen.

Reinstall the PCLinuxOS kdm theme.

When I log in after the upgrade to 4.9.2, I see a plain brushed metal theme.  The symbols which used to appear one after the other no longer appear.  The session loads anyway.

EDIT: I no longer have an activity named "Desktop icons."  The splash screen is named 'Horos' in Desktop settings and the preview there looks completely different to what I see.

EDIT: When I test the Horos theme it appears without icons.

Check and make sure you have the correct kde-workspace-4.9.2 version installed.

I have kde-workspace-core 4.9.2 but kde-workspace 4.9.2 is NOT installed.

I installed kde-workspace and it required a cursor themes package which I also installed.  I logged out and back in.  There is no change and Horos is still shown in Desktop Settings although I can't find it anywhere in Synaptic.

I meant the core, which should contain the ksplashx engine. If you are not getting the icons to appear, you can try checking the ksplash theme and maybe reinstall those themes. kde-workspace is needed by other utilities such as smaragd, and not necessarily a critical KDE package as core is.

Horos as well as Minimalistic, None, Simple and SimpleSmall are the themes packaged with kde-workspace-core. You will need to install the extra themes. The themes are located at /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/

Thanks.  I don't care what theme is used.  Horos is in Desktop settings but is not being used.  When I test it (using the button in Desktop settings) it displays without icons.  I previously had an activity called "Desktop icons" but no longer have it.

Thanks for the information about the other packages.  I'll remove them.

I just tested the splash theme Horos and it displays the icons.

It doesn't show at all here.  I see a plain brushed metal screen.  I re-selected Horos in Desktop settings.  I'll try re-starting.
