[SOLVED] Where Is VOL_ID ?

Using a different distro from a few years ago, I had occasion to add the udev module to that system partly for the sake of a certain utility:  vol_id.  According to the online man pages, it still should be in the udev module.  But I can't find it in any of the LXDE-Minis I've been using since 2011.

Is there any way that I can get vol_id back ?  BTW, I wrote+debugged an elegant little Python script that uses it for drive detection.  TIA....

To avoid stale lists in blkid you can use

blkid -c /dev/null

which causes it to refresh the table 

It rarely happens, but if doing something critical or not directly under user control I suggest it be used.

Having lived thru all of the major NE US power failures since '65, this experience has been eye-opening in the extreme.  I was without power for eleven days !  I had to commute to simply keep my smartphone alive [no joke] !  I can only imagine that this experience would be even more hellish if I weren't living in the shadow of the 'Center of the Universe (New York City)'.  Thankfully it's over for me....
