[FALSE ALARM] The Calibre MONSTER is back! [FALSE ALARM]

Ok ... I know this has been discussed ad nauseum before ... but the "Calibre-is-a-dependency-of-everything-monster" is back.

I'm setting up one of my older IBM T23 laptops with LXDE for my two young nieces. I've been working on this for a while (as I have time), trying to get everything set up and "just so" for them. It is a fresh installation of PCLinuxOS LXDE 2012.06, with a few extra items thrown in for their convenience, such as OOo4Kids (yes, it's in our repos), Foxit Reader, AbiWord, TuxPaint and DeaDBeeF, as well as the necessary libraries to play back DVDs on the laptop. The laptop was last updated a few weeks ago.

Lo and behold, as I was performing last minute updates (I don't want to give them a laptop that hasn't been updated), I noticed that Calibre 0.9.4 was being downloaded and installed. Trust me ... Calibre wasn't even on my radar of programs to install on this laptop, due to its intended "target audience" and the limited resources of this older laptop. However, after performing the latest set of updates on it this morning, Calibre is now installed.

This morning's update consisted of 44 updates, including Calibre 0.9.4.

I know it's a needle-in-a-haystack thing, but maybe someone can check to see what is pulling in Calibre (again), even when it's not wanted? I also know we had this "problem" solved not too long ago. But ... it's back!

Is a default in Iso 2012.06, and will removed in next Iso...

Try removing it and see if it wants to take anything else out with it.

At least then you will know what is tied to it on your install.

I know I didn't install it, and didn't want it. I guess back then you had to include it. 

When I saw it was being updated, I was like "OH NO! Here we go again!"

Try removing it and see if it wants to take anything else out with it.

At least then you will know what is tied to it on your install.

Good idea, Just17. Don't know why I didn't think of that. I tried marking it for removal, and it didn't list anything else for removal with it ... so I just left it.


Ok folks ... move along ... nothing to see here ... just the crazy paranoia of your crazy local magazine editor. Go on, now. Everyone go back home and have some bacon and beer. Move along.
