Add it to the Kmenu yourself using the KDE Menu Editor. It isn't hard to do. Right click on the PC logo and select "Edit Applications" Select the area you want you application to appear in and then click on "New Item" fill in the needed information

and be sure to save before exiting the Menu Editor. And poof you will now see your application in the Kmenu when you open it.

I know how to add/modify Kmenu.
I only wanted to report a problem/bug.

I have noticed that sometimes that the listing does not show up in Kmenu until after a reboot of the machine, why this happens, I have no clue.

I just did the update and it did remove the menu entry for Google-Earth.

I then did a cold boot and a warm boot neither of which had an effect on the missing entry.

This has happened with other Google-Earth updates in the past.

I agree with atoboo that this should not happen.

This is the kind of thing that will drive new users nuts and cause them to either move on or bad mouth the distribution.

And just for the record, I can start Google-Earth from the command line with no problem.

The desktop file should be fine and it does show up on my install:

to update the Kmenu try running from a Terminal (Konsole): kbuildsycoca4
This updates the configuration cache in KDE; then see if the menu entry shows up after that.

This updates the configuration cache in KDE; then see if the menu entry shows up after that.
Also a 'kbuildsycoca4' does not bring the menu entry back.
And this is also supported by the following result:
Quote
bash-4.1$ LC_ALL=C ls /usr/share/applications/google-earth.*
ls: cannot access /usr/share/applications/google-earth.*: No such file or directory

This is the kind of thing that will drive new users nuts and cause them to either move on or bad mouth the distribution.
I am a new user as I am finally forced to find a replacement for the excellent Pardus.
And I have considerable experience in building packages for Pardus.

no idea, the spec-file writes /usr/share/applications/google-earth.desktop and that file is in my system.
Maybe uninstall GE and then install it again.

Maybe uninstall GE and then install it again.
Before doing this ^^^, I will first make a Clonezilla-image of my system partition /sda1, in order to be able to repeat the test.
And the result of ThirdOfSix shows that I am not the only one hit by this problem.

Result:
After a reinstall in Synaptic, the menu entry is back again and also
Quote
bash-4.1$ LC_ALL=C ls /usr/share/applications/google-earth.*
/usr/share/applications/google-earth.desktop

Are there any test I can do (with the help of my Clonezilla-image) to test for instance whether google-earth.desktop was the only missing file
For me it's a mystery at this moment.

+1

On occasion a log out and log in can also do the trick - it's like the system needs to "refresh/re-index" itself

Initially, when I updated to the 6.2.2.6613 version, it worked just fine. However, next time I booted up, the icon for Google Earth was missing from the panel (in both LXDE and KDE).
When I tried to enter GE from the Applications Menu in LXDE, it started, and then quit.

In both desktops, I went back into Synaptic and searched for Google Earth and re-installed it.
After that, I was able to put the icon back into the panel and get the package to start properly.
