Hello there,
I have been putting off  ??? following Textars advice to upgrade KDE here[http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,108162.0.html] as I am not sure that the full monty light installed over KDE 4.6.5 from synaptic will be affected. I don't want to have to reinstall the whole lot again or make a new user again. I had to do this on a major update earlier this year and it took ages to get the desktop back.

I have updated all the other programs in Synaptic to date and only the KDE updated packages are now left.

Does anyone know if the process is straightforward for Full monty light users?
Any advice gratefully received before I "update all" in synaptic.

Everything seems to be working at present except for Gimp that seems to have ".gimp-2.6 and .gimp-2.8" folders in the home directory and is getting confused with the warning : To avoid data loss, please check the location and permissions of the swap directory defined in your Preferences (currently "/home/user/.gimp-2.8"). This I am sure is another problem that I have not worked out yet.
Thanks :)

It's not recommended to update kde 4.6.5 to kde 4.8.3 with FM configuration.
I think it's the same with a FM light configuration.
Just wait for Pinoc who can give you the answer.

fullmonty-light is now obsolete. Instead of a fresh install you could try to, in the following sequence:
1) uninstall fullmonty-light, reboot
2) upgrade to the latest KDE, reboot
3) install kde4-config-fm
4) add a new user to which the FM-layout will be applied
5) either use that new user or copy the settings from the old user-account into the newly created one.

if 1-5 fails, do a fresh install of FM.
good luck!

Thanks to all of you for the advice.  ;D
It seems that I will have to bite the bullet and will set aside some time to do this as safely as possible and back up the e-mails and other data sets.

Good luck.

If you're using KMail  I found  the Archive Folder option works well but YMMV.

It can Archive each folder separately or select more than one folder, or archive the "top level" folder which archives them as a compressed tar file(s)
