Hello,
I just tried to install blender with synaptic, and I got
Quote
Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s).Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages?
It would seem some of the dependencies are missing.I would assume that is why it is not working.

If there's a harder way to do something I'll probably find it.

Hello,
I installed blender player and blender-rpm-macros after which I was able to install blender 2.64a-1pclos2012.
However when I tried to run blender I got
Quote
~]$ blender
Color management: using fallback mode for management
Illegal instruction
I guess missing dependencies are not the cause. ???
Hopefully someone will come along who knows why there is a problem.

Hello,
      I installed blender player

Yesterday, I updated my LXDE installation, via Synaptic, and noticed that Blender was one of the packages to be included. After the installation, I also included blender player but not the rpm's. Blender 2.64 boots perfectly here.

How did you open blender? Was it from the application launch menu or a console window?
I removed blender-rpm-macros  in synaptic but it made no difference?
I get

Color management: using fallback mode for management
Illegal instruction

when I try at the console.I get nothing trying via the application menu.

Hello,
Not had much success so far
~]$ blender -d
Color management: using fallback mode for management
Blender 2.64 (sub 2)
Build: 2012-10-15 04:04:11 Linux Release
argv[0] = blender
argv[1] = -d
Illegal instruction

I should mention I am running PCLOS 2012 KDE fully updated with 2.6.38.8-pclos1.bfs kernel.
I have also tried a few other kernels as well.
I installed blender on a fully updated Dell D610 running the same setup.
It did not work at first but I noticed in Synaptic two versions of python.
python 2.6.6-2pclos2011 which was installed and python3 3.2.1-1pclos2011 which was not.
After I installed python3 as well blender appears to work.
The dell laptop has an intel graphics.
The other desktops have nvidia graphics.I found a number of issues mentioned when I googled some going back a few years.
However there seems to be a new set of issues again recently on quite a few distributions some being solved and others not.
I guess this remains one of the nots.
