Upgrades 'N Downloads

"...Here's yer sign..."
Before I get to the Main Menu, let it be known that it's been a Just Plain Brutal week.

Ex. 1: " What's wrong with this Zip Code: 334429?"  That's right, boys and girls, it's the ol' 6 digit Zip Code.  So my new wireless card was routed to DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA!!!!!  Doesn't matter that the correct city is listed on the delivery invoice.  "Let's mark this one as UNDELIVERABLE." (Thank you Tiger Direct, FedEx and USPS.  Thanx a pile.)

Ex.2:  "Why order a new wireless card when the one that was in your dead computer worked just fine.  Won't it work in your New! Used! Dell Optiplex?"  I don't know about that but I know that I've gone through  F-O-U-R  4G wireless cards from Verizon... Four!  The last one is on the way and it's a different brand that the others.  Let's not talk about how my cell number got appropriated for my Internet use.  I did have Internet access for about 45 minutes there...

Ex. 3: "Charlie, here's yer sign."  I thought I understood a little.  Maybe not.  We won't mention the 8 hours downloading on DrubXP that's nowhere to be found this morning.  What about the 12 hours downloading 2012.8 pclos on the un-upgraded pclos box?
Ark: Downloaded to Ark and almost immediately got a message that the link had disappeared.  Length of .iso file? 45 bytes. Six hours for 45 bytes.   Worse, I could not drag 'n drop any file to /home... .  k3b wanted to chop Joliet extensions and spent a half hour churning away.  Finished result? Another coaster!  It has written SOMETHING however, the shiny side has about half of the medium already dun writ to.

Very tired.  I NEED to get PCLOS up and LibreOffice going.  OH!!: Torrents don't work either.  "Your download is ready....................Can't find file"

They tell me tell that the staff at the home where I'm going is very friendly.  Could anyone give them some ideas that might work?  Right now it looks like I'm ordering through the mail again.
It was supposed to be so easy (It used to be)!

Thnx,

Charlie

Very bad week indeed.
I suggest first to find a helpfull someone in the neighbourhood.
I'm not your neighbour, but if no one can help you, I'll burn you a PCLos LiveDVD.(DVD+R)
It has to come from the Netherlands, so calculate the shipping time.
PM me if you wish.
You have a PM ;)

Thank you for the offer.  I've just downloaded LibreOffice for XP and will use it for awhile.
I'm going to spend the $5 for a copy w/postage and wait for a week to get it.  I've almost used up my data allowance already.

I thank you, though.  You're another reason I enjoy the PCLOS community.

Just an update.  I gritted my teeth and did the download thing.  There's another Verizon story but I've told enough of those lately.
Did it on Drub XP and PCRecord would not accept blank +Rs, -Rs or +RWs, but XP was updating 99 programs - yes, 99.  So maybe the machine was locked up, I dunno.  Used an old, beat up and crippled copy (Sounds like me!) of Nero but...it got the job done!
After 99 updates, mebbe it's time to run the Anti-Virus again.  After all, I just did a fresh reload.  Maybe in 6 months when I reboot into that system again.

The next thing I have to do is borrow some gas money so I can knock over a few liquor stores and pony up some ca$h to the PCLOS Party fund.  Donation time!

Because so far, this works.  And LibeOffice is already there.

Thanx everyone.
