It appears to be something the matter with this install.
What it might be is another matter of course.

I have that 'Add Entry' on another machine I was able to check this morning.

That machine was a recent install, unlike this one, which might have anything gone wrong due to me messing about with it.

So I think I will put this down to this install .....  unless there are many others in a similar situation.

The KDE 4.8.3 that I am speaking about is FullMonty and is not updated for several months because I did a partial upgrade at that time and had a mess too.
Nevertheless it's working and I haven't this option Add there.
On a newer FM install (about two weеks ago) KDE is 4.9.2 and I have the Add option.

I have it even in LXDE! :P
With Krusader installed and up to date :)

I did some searching on the Internet and found that kdenetwork should be installed along with samba. I only had 2 of the mods installed so I installed all the mods for kdenetwork. I then did the massive update and now I have a SHARE tab???? not sure what fixed it, if it was the missing kdenetwork or the updates. I still do not have a ADD parm on the Permissions box tho. Will continue to investigate.

Really not sure why some of us have this and some don't.

I've installed the last three iso's and non of them have the option under Advanced Permissions, I then installed the latest iso again and fully updated it. After the update the option appeared. I'm still trying to locate the package which provided the option.

Regards

.....  unless it is a package that some of us have that is blocking the option and not one providing it ......

either way it is weird .....

good luck on your hunt ......  I admit to giving up  :D

Very odd, current indications are that it's a function of acl, and kdelibs.

I don't suppose you'd consider re-installing those would you?

Tried .....  logged out and in again ....  no sign of that 'Add' on the Advanced permissions window.

.....  maybe it needs a reboot?

Edit .....  nope ......  still no sign of this .....

I have looked again both as root and as user.  In each case I see the "add entry" option only in relation to folders and files in the respective home directories.  I tried searching kde.org but found nothing.

Well I seem to have drawn a blank on this, what I have noticed is that if a recent live cd/dvd is being used then the Advanced Permissions window with the Add User button doesn't show. However, if you install the system so it's running on the hard disk it shows up. It behaves this way in VirtualBox too.

I'm at a bit of a loss now ???
