undefined video mode number:314
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:25:13 AM »
I installed kde mini me on a dell desktop for a friend of mine when his windows install went belly up, I was able to save all his files but I get this "undefined video mode number:314 " message at every boot up. It's a dell machine with a 1.8 gig  P4, a gig of ram. and and intel onboard graphics. after boot up, everything looks ok except dragging a window is "jerky". any help appreciated to help me get a new convert. thanks.

check /boot/grub/menu.lst and try vga=788 instead. The message indicates that the OS is booting into a video mode (either too big or too small) that is unacceptable to the monitor.

Thanks Archie, I'll give that a try. I can boot it with vga=normal, if I hit F3 on boot and edit the boot menu, but it doesn't stay. This should do it.
