The magazine staff doesn't really need "Ideas".
What the magazine staff needs is articles.
Articles that inspire you to write something down and send it in.
Personally, I don't think it matters what the article is about, hell, he even printed our band's article based on a few questions.
It's not ideas that Paul is looking for, it is something more than that.
It is ideas, typed out in a format that can be used as an article that Paul is looking for.
Paul and his staff are quite capable of turning your article into a work of art, but to simply "suggest" an idea means that he and his staff must research, make sense of and then write an article from scratch.
If you know anything about anything and can type,, send these guys something.
They will give you credit for the work, and they will make you look like a true writer.
