Thanks again---
I did the full load and have a couple of significant problems- I'm addressing this in a new thread.

Regarding MiniMe:  I may give this a try now after reading  all the advice.  I don't need 3 or 4 different music and video players, just one.  I only want one browser, etc.   I notice there's soooo much stuff on the full load I have yet to use over the years.

Like I said, I mostly use the browser, watch youtube videos, Hulu, download torrents, read online mail (don't use an e-mail client), LibreOffice, burn CDs/DVD's, watch movies on occasion, edit photos from my phone camera or my simple Canon Powershot digital cam (mostly to remove redeye).  Listen to music (Amarok).

So, I will likely benefit from the MiniMe?  It's a much shorter download as well.  I have a 16meg download speed at home and the full version (3gb?) took quite a while!

To watch commercial DVD movies, you will need these packages installed, as well as the video player of your choice.

try to make your own remaster of MiniMe using VBox, that way you can work in it in your spare time until it is the way you like it.

I find this to be an excellent idea. I am going to try that myself right now. Thanks, even though it was advice to Rudge  :D

Thanks Crow.

I was able to install MiniMe in Virtual Box. However, when I clicked the Cashew the screen went black and I am unable to do anything with it. So I need to either reinstall or figure out what I did.

I just tried MiniMe and can confirm what you say, if I try to click anything in the desktop the image goes black.

I'ts strange, I'm making a remaster using LXDE Mini in Virtual Box and works fine.

I don't have a partition to install MiniMe so I don't know if that behavior is just in Virtual Box

My install now says it is gone. It tells me there is nothing to boot. So, I will reinstall now and see what happens. I will be back with a report.

NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MINIME INSTILLATION  AND I AM PLAYING WITH IT AS WE SPEAK BUT I DO KNOW THAT I PREFERRED A FULL INSTALLATION INTO A HARD DRIVE ..I JUST BELIEVE IT BRINGS OUT EVERY THING THAT THE OS CAN DO...I HAVE E17 ON MINE ..

I am going to install it on a hard drive. If you see the post earlier by Crow, it was to install on virtual box and get minime set up just how you want it with added applications and tweaks here and there. And when the remaster is to my liking, install it to a hard drive.

That is what I am doing. Trying to run it as a livecd doesn't work that well, but installing it from the initial splash screen works great.

I am in the process of doing it now. I am enjoying it. I am glad you had that suggestion.
MiniMe is definitely the way to go. For me that is. I like to have streamlined things and MiniMe allows me that luxury.
On another laptop, I am trying out the programs that I am thinking of adding to MinMe and if I like them, I install them on my remaster. Will save a lot of time down the road. Thanks again.  ;)

Allow me some space on this thread to add a little bit more wisdom on those already plaguing this thread.

On Standard KDE, removing apps will very often leave configurations files and settings on your /home. Unless you're planning on reinstalling those apps at a later time and expect the same configurations, you'll have those annoying (but nevertheless irrelevant) tidbits. On installing new apps on a Minime, you will be creating those same configuration files and settings so if you install then for some reasons remove an app, that goes pretty much the same. When you know what you want to add to Minime, you're pretty much closer to that ideally perfect system devoid of those annoying (but nevertheless irrelevant) tidbits.

Whenever I try an app then remove it, my first destination is my /home folder ... locating and removing those leftover configuration files and settings.

Good advice Archie.

I am actually trying all kinds of applications on a separate laptop I have. Then if I like it I am loading it on my virtualbox MiniMe. That way I will only have the apps I want on my remaster.

I have tried many things already that I thought I might like but didn't. Had I just loaded MiniMe, I would be dealing with exactly what you stated.
