Synaptic launch from wbar lacks font. (Solved)

When attempting to launch Synaptic from wbar, and receiving the prompt to enter the root password, I get no output from the keyboard.  The cursor simply blinks at me mockingly.  I checked the configuration in wbar, which reads:  xterm -font 7x13bold -fg darkslategray -bg white -title $"Open Synaptic" -e 'echo -n "'$"Please enter root - "'"; su -c "apt-get update; synaptic"'  

I know there are other ways to launch synaptic, but wbar is usually quicker, if it is working properly.

Running LXDE 2012.06, fully updated.

Did you try clicking in the root password box, to gain focus, before typing?

Yes, that was my first thought too, but there is no effect.  No matter what keys are pressed there is no output.  I can launch xterm manually, and it responds perfectly.     I may try the live cd to see if the response is the same, or if something has gone wrong since the install.  I know that there have been several updates to wbar recently....

Well, now I'm feeling somewhat foolish...  I tried entering the password and just hitting "enter", and the synaptic responded perfectly.  There is no apparent output in xterm, but it apparently does register the keystrokes.  I'm still not certain if this is the way it works on the live cd, but it is functional, and I will mark this post as Solved.
