palimpsest 3.0.0 error
« on: October 12, 2012, 03:08:53 PM »
After upgrading palimpsest from version 2.32 to 3.00 it is no longer working (32bit test)

I get the following error:

Code: [Select]
libgdu-WARNING **: Couldn't get daemon properties
Error creating pool: `(unspecified error)'

Palimpsest-CRITICAL **: Bailing out

and the program starts with an empty window

Anyone can confirm?

On 32 bit: the app launches and seems to work well - But I get numerous instances of a warning message when it starts:

Code: [Select]
libgdu-WARNING **: unhandled property 'DeviceAutomountHint'
On a relatively recent but fully updated version of Test05, 64 bit: I get precisely the same messages as agmg followed by the empty window.

On an older but also fully updated 64 bit install: the program works perfectly without any warnings or error messages.

On both systems where the upgrade works I have installed lots of libraries that are missing from the system where it doesn't.

Note that the 64 bit install consisted of a single package and (I think) one dependency, while I had to install both palimpsest and the gnome-disk-utility on 32 bit.

Looks like a lot of gtk (gnome)packages are out of date.
Guess the gtk(gnome) packagers seems retired or don't packaging anymore.  :(
So depends on the handfull packagers we have.

Xfce updates are in testing and LXDE are stable.

Hopefully someone from the gnome community is interested again??

I do not get an error message but, when I open the program, I do get the exact same blank screen you show. This is not good. I hope that this can either be fixed or that the previous version can be put back into the repository.

That is Version 3.0.0

All info displayed appears to be good.

Suspect udisks/upower is not working correctly with the actual udev packages.
Maybe are the udev packages too old?

Actual=184, in repository 168 (downgraded to 167 in changelog)

I got palimpsest to work by downgrading udisks from 1.98.0-1pclos2012 to 1.0.4-2pclos2011 on my newer 32 bit system. The strange thing is that it works well with the newer udisks on my older 32 bit system.

So udisks can't be the only culprit.

I'm using the Xfce (Phoenix) edition of PCLOS. For some reason, the .rpm will not install to my computer. I tried installing from the downloaded .rpm both with and without udisks, palimpsest, gnome disk utility and all the dependencies installed but, using rpm-installer, I got the same error message both times.

And Gnome Disk Utility (palimpsest) is still not working properly on my 32-bit computer.

You have to remove udisks with synaptic ( it removes some other packages too)
Start konsole or terminal and root to su.

Go to your download folder where the udisks rpm is downloaded
Type then: rpm -Uvh *.rpm (or the name of the package if you have more rpm packages in your download folder)

Install the gnome-disk-utility again with synaptic.

Dear JohnW,

That did it! Thank you very much. However, I do hope the administrators will find a means for allowing the Gnome Disk Utility (palimpsest) to work properly in the latest version of udisks.

In the mean time, this workaround will certainly do.

Again, thank you very much.
