how many sata ports does your mainboard have?
some time ago some sata drives refused to work because the sata cable was connected on a special sata raid connector
could that be the case? sometimes those sata ports are blue and shouldn't be used for other than hard disks
now, it is weird that brasero works well and simpleburn doesn't, possibly not related to this hardware condition but worth to verify to discard
My mobo has 4 sata ports and they are all red in color. In the bios ide/sata raid is disabled.
In my BIOS, in order to use all the ports, I have the
SATA type set to
AHCI,
RAID enabled, then set to
SATA mode, and lastly the
RAID type set to
JBOD. (
Just a Bunch Of Disks) This in effect renders the RAID sockets the same as the normal sockets, so all are then available for use, and each device is seen as an individual device, not part of a collective.
My previous MB had both IDE/PATA and SATA controllers, used the same basic settings in BIOS, and both the IDE/PATA and SATA burners were available, and seen as /dev/sr0 and /dev/sr1.
Different BIOS should have something similar available in their setup, but may have slightly different terminology. You just need to look at what's offered, and it certainly helps to have the MB user's manual handy, for reference, to explain each of the various setting's purpose.
